Al Haymon´s PBC opened with a bang on March 7th, 2015 on NBC, headlined by Keith Thurman and Robert Guerrero. While not a PPV spectacle in terms of matchmaking, it was high production, filled with well known A-sides and was topped off with an excellent main-event. It was a ratings hit and had fans buzzing. PBC then got themselves onto the following networks: ESPN, CBS Sports, FS1, NBCSN, Spike and Bounce TV(most of these ended in 2018). PBC was off to the races, accompanied by hundreds of the biggest names in boxing, now in their stable. Well, now in 2024 with the closing of SHO Boxing, PBC are left with only Amazon. And Amazon has yet to make any big commitment to them. In 2015 they held 46 events. In 2016 they held 52 events. In 2019 they held 36 events. In 2023 they held 16 events. In 2024 this number was down to 5. And right now they have only a single event scheduled for 2025, which is in February. Is this the end, or just a slump due to large shifts in the industry?
Saudi have changed the game. Fans know how the best will fight each other when forced to. PBC can't do that, Saudi can.
PBC started with a riches of venture capital money, which they used to fund loss making event after loss making event. Eventually that money has dried up and so have PBC events, with even mediocre PBC events being PPV now. TBH I have no idea what their long term goal was, other than to **** away truckloads of venture capital money which they have done very well. I don't see much of a future for PBC, as all their events going forward need to be self-sustaining and I just don't see that happening, even if they are put on PPV.
Anybody know what happened to Fundora vs Spence btw, wasn't that supposed to have already happened? PBC seems to really be in shambles.
It´s in the works for spring 2025. But the fact that they haven´t set a date just further proves how badly PBC are struggling. Could be that they are quietly working on some deal, but it´s not looking good.
They put on some good cards those first few years, im not gonna **** on them now that they’ve gone downhill because it’s trendy…. Good post @Badbot
PBC literally robbed venture capitalists. That was literally their goal. Literally. None of their fighters have gone on to do ANYTHING. Tank is their last prospect and, at 30 yrs old, still hasnt fought a LW champ despite being a LW champ himself for like 4 years. There's always a reason WHY fighters dont versus the best competition and its usually lack of confidence in outcome. Spence, Wilder, Charlos, Porter, Thurman, Danny, GRJ...all horribly managed. Hell Benavidez tried to leave PBC too lmao. The day PBC officially dies and disbands will be a good day for boxing. Awful promo company
It was a good idea when it started. Bad application to it,maybe regardless it would have been bust. It was a money issue.
PBC is a sinking ship that has ruined their fighters over the years. Not surprised that this is slowly going down the toilet. Doesn't help that some of these fighters choose to fight every once in a blue moon.
