First time seeing this, i joined a year or so after it was published it seems. Great breakdown of his key fights.

I've posted on forums for many years and I've never seen a fighter divide them like Calzaghe.. I think he genuinely confuses people .. not just in the ring, but out of it too.. i think he turned a lot of cliches on their head in a time when most European fighters were just seen as 1D 'eurobums' & food for the Americans.. long before the Usyks, Lomas & Bivols..

 

On here, he seems fairly rated by the vast majority of posters.

Away from this forum, and especially on social media, he gets vastly overrated.

There’s many, many fans, mostly casuals, who genuinely believe that he’s the GOAT, or a top 20 ATG fighter.

It’s like some cult.

I’ve never seen anything like it.

To debate his career objectively, is now as difficult as objectively debating the careers of Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather.

 

We all love the time and effort you put into these types of posts.

I personally have learnt an awful lot from many of them.

I can remember being educated on the earlier career of Usyk.

So thank you, and long may these threads continue.

However, regarding this specific one, I’m sure that you’ll be SHOCKED to know that I don’t agree with many things, where you’ve clearly exaggerated his overall worth, and the worth of some of his wins.

But if you really think that, then you’ve obviously got some issues of your own to address.

 

His style was totally and utterly unique.

A lot of boxers have contemporaries who are similiar (Usyk- Loma), (Marquez - Ricardo Lopez), (Mayweather Jr has an army of clones), (Hopkins - Ward).

No one in boxing was like Calzaghe, no one had his combined attributes.

 

Mostly Americans that don’t like Joe, they can’t handle the fact that the real goat hails from Wales.
Bitchslapped the new Tyson Lacy back across the Atlantic without breaking a sweat.
Why should a king leave his castle? In the end he gets tired of hearing these plastic gangsters from across the pond say they are better.
He finally goes over and comfortably beats Jones and Hopkins, even letting them both hit him to have a moment in front of their people before comprehensively outboxing them.
