I just can't see how anyone could have Hopkins winning that fight. Just curious. How did you score it?

He should have just done it. Everybody knows in hypotheticals that freak injuries are practically a certainty. Look at Vitali VS threads ... his arm is held on by a piece of string and a button

@ CST80 Excellent thread. I love it when you take the time to do these writeups. Thanks man.

@Clinton You could argue that Hopkins won it through landing the harder punches. But punches landed, Calzaghe all the way.

I'm not a fan of either one, and I've seen the fight only once. But I remember when I watched it that Calzaghe had clearly won by 2 or 3 points. We could go around in circles all day long but that's how I saw it.

a SD win for joe based on youthful workrate that overrides Hopkins earlier outboxing of joe.

ie the actual result. Less convincing than taylors over younger hop and MUCH less than kovalevs and dawsons over him. But a result, just barely.

do you see it different from the actual result?

As I wrote before, I had Calzaghe winning by 2 or 3 points. Hopkins had his moments but I saw Calzaghe winning. How did you score it?

I had it a win by joe by either a point or two, based on him rallying largely ineffectivelybut in volume, over gassing hop with almost zero honest workrate from round 6 onwards...after being behind in the first half of the fight by a fair degree.

I think the SD reflects the win best - far greater (albeit muchly ineffective) workrate vs effective short term boxing followed by inactivity - so that fighters get credit for youthful volume and skill rspectively.

oh alright well you just seemed to push really hard for something and then stopped suddenly. it just read really odd looking. BRRRRrrrrRR...brakes! kinda thing.

    ok.

the decision could also have gone the other way depending on either fighter getting docked for cheating, with Hopkins heavily relying on fakery after gassing out around round 6, and joe low blowing Hopkins to avoid getting KOed when floored in round 1.

I can understand their points of view though - hopkins NEEDS to rely on fakery in his 40s to get him out of trouble when he is outpaced, and joe NEEDED to low blow in order to not get embarrassingly stopped early by a 40something opponent who had stopped no one in years. They both had to cheat to hide their respective limitations.

A horrible fight all in all, low skill high output vs high skill low output relatively speaking to each other.

Considering you both agree Calzaghe won a close fight, you seem oddly antagonistic.

By '40 something' you mean 41, and if you think Hopkins was shot at 41, I'd suggest you've been in a coma for the past decade.

why you trying to stir things up mate? There is no issue here except until you just inferred it. THe other guy seemed to chasing something and then suddenly put the brakes on, that's crystal clear for any fool to see. but theres no issue now as HE just said. try not to invent an issue, cheers.

ur math is wrong mate, why your math is so bad all of a sudden for this case? anyway I was right, you are wrong.

why you trying to pretend I said hes shot, mate?

u've faked all three of the points you made, mate, whys that? u pulling a Hopkins on me?

Calzaghe beat, by almost all accounts, a still very good Hopkins in a close fight. That's all there is to it.

I didn't do any maths, my memory, apparently erroneously, told me he was 41.

Faked? I have no idea what you mean, if you're that argumentative for no reason, you have issues. Thanks mate.
