I love Liston, but Think MARCIANO soaks up the punishment and goes to the body and later KOs Sonny. The only people I believe beat Sonny in a 1 fight tourney are Dempsey, Johnson, Louis, MARCIANO, Jeffries (in a 25 rdr) Tunney Holmes. And the only one I'd bet on to turn the trick is Dempsey. Everyone else COULD fail. But, that said, Marciano over 15, wins by KO. I think Rocky could do it. Btw, the ONLY person I pick to beat Rocky is Jack.
I have a high opinion of Liston. He seems to have fallen out of favor over the yrs on here. Not to me though.
Liston certainly looked like he had lead in his hands were extremely heavy like he had weights in his hands he did not punch with as much body behind his shots even his arm punches with a little torque were brutally heavy......Foreman threw much faster with much more body behind it
Me either. A lot of these guys don't realize the monster Liston was. He is everything and more they wish their hero Tyson was, but wasn't. Sonny was truly the baddest man. I have a beautiful orange Sonny Liston shirt I got recently and was standing in line at Kroger when an elderly woman in front of me turned and saw my shirt as she was emptying her grocery cart. She looked at my Sonny shirt then to me and said with emphasis on the word THAT, "Now THAT was a fighter!" Two things learned, boxing used to be big and today's fighters and really the sport are held in contempt by many older folks and three (I know), even during boxings heyday among the elite Heavyweight Champions, Sonny Liston was viewed as one bad mother ****er ! It kind of restored my belief in boxing history. An old woman. Who'd of thought?
I just can't envision RM winning here. He would just be absorbing too many flush shots. I would have to take Sonny in that one. Rocky is tough on an insane level but I can't see it.
The first German, Zech, landed some very good shots on Liston. If he had any power the result may have been different. Liston's best defence was his offence. If (IF) you could avoid those bombs and get to his Chin you would have a Chance for a win. But avoiding those bombs is the problem.
