Sometimes i think the state of boxing is going down. That's what I meant. Social media has taken net down a notch. Tour the classic era stands alone.

I don’t know what Pea’s post means, but boxing’s state is that the biggest draw and best-known fighter in the world is a YouTube guy. In fact, probably a few of the other best-known ‘boxers’ are, lol.

It’s a dying sport, very niche. Very few go into it as compared with decades ago, and most drawn toward combat sports now pursue MMA.

Sad state of affairs. We on this forum are more archeologists than sweet scientists, alas.

For better and worse I feel social media has left boxing alone. If you want to see how social media destroys a sport look at basketball. Boxing is not that.

I've pretty much stopped watching altogether, and I'm curious how many others here on Classic have stopped as well, and what exactly drove you away. For me, the sanctioning bodies, and all the nonsense that comes with them, had something to do with me losing interest. Four belt holders per division, for example, is just insane. Last I was paying attention, Don King was still getting completely undeserving guys title shots, giving us such classics as Bryan-Stiverne, Bryan-Guidry, Charr-Lovejoy, etc. This I believe was the WBA and their secondary title, or whatever they call it. The sport has always kind of been a mess since I've been following around the mid 80s or so, but it's just grown too tiresome to even bother with now. Would be nice if somebody...maybe the Saudi guy for example...can do something to render the alphabet groups useless, and maybe replace them with something better.

Boxing peaked somewhere within Wlad's reign. I thought Fury could carry it further but he merely sustained and then faltered.

Boxing will always have a place in sports. Just last month we had the biggest fight (in terms of viewership) ever. There will be other fights that will captivate millions of people to watch in the future.

I only tune into the bigger fights anymore. Undercards suck 90% of the time.
Boxers today aren't as well schooled as they were IMO but that's another topic I guess. Ill watch a guy like Inoue or Chocolatito when he does fight.
HW's are boring and mostly overweight. Ill put TUBI on a few times a week. They have classic HBO & Classic ESPN boxing 24/7 along with Glory Kickboxing that has a decent fight once in a while. I really miss weekend boxing from the late 70's to the early 90's. Along with HBO. Really sad how far boxing has fallen.

me as well, hardly ever watch and for years now,

I still appreciate a great & lovely Boxer, i.e Josh Warrington, but mostly there are few who interest me... the Subpar S-HW's you can have them & keep them and every champion that got there in 20-25 fights or less, well how in the hell can they have historical H2H validity.

the B.S period, from the Hyperbolic Media, talking up every event like there will be no other... talking pure shite about fighters greatness & victories, then all the Boxing people, even on sites that spew similar things and the blatant bias protection ownership placement and invested stranglehold over any level of honesty, integrity and fair & equal opportunity. it isn't a Disgrace, it's Disgusting.

Plus, I have quite a lot of Boxing History in my collection and even reading through, throws up similar truths.

Boxing IS Done, it is a false economy, it's history could be rewritten and the TV Coverage, Media Pundits and many fans have just mutilated it.

Boxing has been TKO'd, I'm afraid.

I’ll admit to a healthy amount of old-fogeyism. Much of my attitude toward modern boxing is based on nothing more than a desire for me to feel like I used to feel about it. And I don’t.

That said, even the most pie-in-the-sky observer must admit that boxing used to feel less contrived; there were real superstars that fought often, for only one or two possible championships per weight class. It was nowhere near as watered down then.

Boxing grabbed the public imagination then in a way it simply doesn’t anymore. It is indeed a very fringe sport now. When it’s biggest “star” is nothing more than a Youtuber who carefully “arranges” his own so-called fights, you’ve got real problems.

Either boxing is in a bad state or maybe I’m just losing interest in it. If you ask me to name the champions in say,the middleweight, welterweight an lightweight divisions traditionally some of the highest profile boxing divisions, I don’t think I could do it without looking it up. Been a long time since I’ve felt like that

I think that we will definitely miss the best fighters of today when they are gone.

Boxing will continue IMO however it's best days unfortunately are in the past. There are a handful of fighters I enjoy today Usyk, Fury, Inoue, etc but most are dull at best. The way it's going even the days of Mayweather and Paq are a sort of Golden age compared to now. It's sad but such is life. Perhaps there will be a resurgence at some point but I won't hold my breath. At least we have a ton of history to enjoy.

Boxing in the current day and age is a sorry state of affairs for the most part, hype and novelty fights get the most backing and promotion, and proper fights go under the radar.

When you look at fight from the 70s, 80s, and 90s and compare it today its worlds apart.
