The state of British boxing

No one else at the moment apart from maybe Bellew, but he has a lot of questions about him at the moment but he could develop into a very good fighter indeed.

I believe things look even healthier than they did when Calzaghe and Hatton were around. That might seem odd but I think the depth in young talent is far greater than its been for a while.

I don't neccessarily think looking at how many bogus titlists like Rees and Enzo etc was or is indicative. It's how many genuinely talented fighters there are and there seems to be so many at the moment.

 

Replace Degale with Ronnie Heffron, he is a great little fighter who will do well at 140 in the future...:deal

 

There seems to be a nice balance of progressions in our fighters careers at the moment. You could easily put them into brackets. And that's healthy, you want guys competing on all fronts, not too top or bottom heavy. You don't want one or two champs and then nothing beneath, or a plethora of untested talent but no champs.

Froch = Genuine proven articles at this point.

Khan = On the ladder towards reaching the above.

Lindsay = Closing in on world title shots over the next few years or sooner. Not all or even half will probably be successful but its a healthy list.

Jeffries is a great guy and a great ticket seller too...:yep

He can clearly make a few quid, he needs to get stepped up very soon or he will have blown his best opportunity with inactivity... I think he will be getting harder sparring than all of his contests put together...:yep

You missed Ajose Olusegun who is on the verge of a world title shot. He outclassed Colin Lynes last night.

 

Not until he gets into shape and fights more regulary.

 

John Watson Jr looks a solid prospect. Good amateur and undefeated as a pro

 

Very good list. I would add Karl Place to the top young talents list.

We have plenty of great prospects, but I think Frankie Gavin, George Groves, James DeGale, Scott Quigg and Tony Bellew are the best of them.

Then you have Heffron, Frampton, BJS, Price, Joe Murray, T Dickinson, Place, Smith, Vassell, Cox, Jeffries, Selkirk, Rose, A Sexton, S Williams, J Watson, Sykes etc. etc.

 

Craig McEwan. Another win last night takes him to 18-0. Needs a step up now I think but he told me he might be getting a title shot this year. I'd stick him in with Geale. A good ranking and beatable.
