im a huge vitali and klitschko fan but his face was ****ED UP.. that being said lennox was shook and would have most likely lost the rematch that vitaali was chasing after :deal both men only gained from that night
Controversial no doubt.. How many years after? Lewis won that last round, but the doctor robbed us. One more round.
Legitimate that the fight was stopped--Vitali's titanium frame was showing through the cut. Controversial was the lack of a rematch and the immediate retirement of Lewis. It wasn't a satisfactory ending to the match, much less the rivalry, for any boxing fan watching. Only the most intellectually dishonest of Lewis nuthuggers would claim a rematch wasn't the right thing for the sport.
Of course it was controversial, that's why the WBC ORDERED the rematch to begin with they dont order a rematch if the result is conclussive, they do it when it's dubious when there's a doubt if the better man won or not Lewis ofc, chickened out and had to retire winning the lotery of cuts twice is highly unlikely
Nicely put Bremen. Hard to tell if the swelling and prepunch abrasions were from the thumbing or the butts/rubs from Lewis famous cornrows. He used those things to rub fighters during the latter part of his career, especially against guys who wanted to wrestle inside like Holyfield. Even if the cut was opened by a punch or simply made much worse by the series of shots, shoulda went to the cards. Most who disagreed with the ref's decision to halt it the way he did see this WBC rule as clear evidence for the rematch in the least. We didn't get that second fight, but the rules indicate a controversy.
The cuts were bad enough to stop it earlier...I think the controversy lies in the ref's discretion to call it a TKO.:think
Whoa, Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko fought each other? I've been reading these forums for years and I would never have guessed that.
If the ref allowed to go on, we wouldn't have seen Vitali on his prime, Lennox would have butchered that face if it went on.
