Its a great film but the book is far superior. I highly suggest that anyone who liked the film buys the book because its just so much better.

The tracking shot when he comes out to face Cerdan is just as good as the tracking shot of the date in Goodfellas IMO.
i remember reading in the ring magazine that they'd shelved plans to make the film because lamotta had no redeeming features at all.the book and the film are/were both great.
Good film, but slightly overrated now. I'm no film buff, but i think there have been better boxing movies.
I think it's held in just the right regard. Scorcese had nailed down his adult style, Schrader's script was excellent, DeNiro and Pesci are brilliant in it, and it looks amazing. Marty had made a better film before it in Taxi Driver, and would make a more definitive film later in Goodfellas. But RB is Can't think of many boxing movies which treat the sport more accurately or with as much energy. The Harder They Fall, Million Dollar Baby, Somebody Up There Likes Me... but barring the fist, RB's better than all of them. You're an idiot.
As boxing films go I havent seen any that are better than this...saying that this is not 'just' a boxing film, more like a film about a boxer...if that makes sense. Even so the fights in the film are very well done. I have read the book and yes it is a very good read, but I find reading books takes too long so I prefer the films usually
