    Mikkel Kessler.

Calzaghe's signature win is over Kessler. If Kessler can't get anyone to fight him, fades into obscurity or massively underachives if he does get the big fights, then Calzaghe's legacy is seriously damaged.

The win over Hopkins, while a great achivement, will never be considered the serious defining legacy moment for Calzaghe, simply because of the nature of the win (I.e a disuputed split decsion).

Lacy seems to be going nowhere fast, and apart from that, which other fighters can Calzaghe build a legacy on the back of? ...

...no one, its all about what Kessler does next, he if goes on to unify, beat a lot of names, then Calzaghe's legacy will look solid (a lot of decent opponents, one truly great win), if not, then its good not great - Calzaghe had the achivements (undisputed super middleweight king) but not the elite resume of a top ATG.

i agree.i just hope kessler ditches palle and gets a decent promoter who will get him some big named fights as he fully deserves them and is more than capable of dominating smw then lhw imo.

As a fan of both, i would really like that! but before talking about Kessler beat all the big names, he needs to get away from his manager first! Palle is slowly taking Kesslers career down the drain, if he cant get away or they cant sort things out, and go to court.. i`m afraid it will be the end of Kessler!

kess has already voiced his frustration of not getting any big fights esp in the US. and your rite, he deserves it. but dominate.................... hopefully we shall see.

I heard Joe hopes to promote Kessler! So it could still be in his own hands! (this is from a comment the Setanta website)

kessler has the potential to an ATG .Lets hope he gets the big and meaningfull fights sooner rather than later .Mind you the Calzaghe route is hardly the way to go fight nobodies till you are 34 and then try and catch up .Shame

No doubt that Kessler is in a difficult situation, and he definetly needs some good management. There are not many people queing up to fight Kessler because he is too dangerous an opponent. He is an awsome talent, who should dominate at 168, but his career is going sideways or backwards at the moment. I would love to see him sign with Golden Boy so he can fulfull his potential.

Good thread. Hopkins was past-prime, and outskilled Joe but lost due to a lack of stamina as he was 43. Even then, Hopkins should've got the decision. Even if you do think Joe won, he was largely ineffective and unimpressive.

In 10-20 years time, the hype that initially surrounded Lacy will have been largely forgotten and he'll be just another Charles Brewer on a weak resume.

Kessler will have a definite effect on Calzaghe's legacy. I think it will be a positive one. Kessler is a very very good smw IMO.

what a silly silly post. Its not determined on one man. Lacy was a career defining fight- just because lacy isnt doing anything now doesnt mean it didnt mean anything....lacy was heavily tipped to beat calzaghe was undefeated and had an aura around him. calzaghe took that away so its hes fault he beat him so badly that he isnt the same.

Same with kessler- how he comes back is determined on many things. Calzaghe beat him to unify the division and he was touted as the best in the division and someone calzaghe wasnt willing to fight. He was probably in hes peak too... when that 0 goes things can change........i do think tho kessler has such a strong mentaloty he'l probably come bak better

Absolutely correct. If Kessler goes forward with a stellar career it will do wonders for Calzaghe's legacy. There's really no one else that can do much for Calzaghe at this juncture.

To a point you are correct...even though Joe's BEST win was over Nard....Kessler was in his prime! And he was a champion. However Kessler was largely unproven as a young champion in the sense he didn't beat anyone of note....he had some good wins but nothing on the level of Joe C, Nard, or even guys like Pav or Jermain Taylor. it will be interesting to see how Mikkel does. Good observation!:good

Your thread is spot on mate, would not bet against Joe signing him and furthering his own 'legacy'. (I ****ing detest this word) Thats what DLH was planning to do with the Mosleys and Hattons of the world before he got his ass whooped by The Pacman.
