You gotta love the super flyweights - or if you know little about them, you better start learning some names and start loving them because they are bringing the excitement to boxing the way just a few other divisions can these days. And on the top of that, a rare event in the lower divisions is happening on the 17 of this month: a unification fight between great slick technician, WBC-champ Cristian Mijares and powerful WBA brawler, Alexander Munoz. That's one of the best match-ups in the 2nd quarter of the year and the winner should get a spot very close to the p4p top10 - and beating WBO's powerful title-holder Fernando Montiel later this year would be just the perfect opportunity to get in. The division is very deep today. The 4th champ, the great Russian technician Dimitri Kirilov is fighting monsterous puncher Vic Darchinyan in August. Montiel, coming off his stunning KO win over Martin Castillo is fighting Luis Maldonado on Saturday. Former champs Darchinyan and Roberto Vasquez competing now in this division, a former super flyweight puncher, now a champ at flyweight, Nonito Donaire might return for the big names. Great youngsters like AJ Banal and Raul Martinez are getting closer to title fights. Jorge Arce might return. So already a few big fights coming and the future is wery bright for the SUPER super flyweights... I only hope this thread doesn't die because of the very overlooked division...
God Mijares has plenty of mortals to defeat for him to become the greatest 115 pounder in history.:good
Freaking Superflyweights got me all excited as well. If Arce moved back down and Donaire had the balls to move up then it would be a party. :happy
Just one week until the fight. It's very sad that there's almost no media attention for this one. Mijares-Munoz is a great fight. Does anyone know what TVs are going to broadcast the fight?
nice thread man:good I rank superflyweight currently as the best division out there in boxing, next is welterweight. Some people had 147 as the best but i think 115 is the most deepest division in boxing and is loaded with talent can't wait for donaire to go there..:hey

Is undefeated LWW boxer Ricardo Mijares a brother of Cristian? According to boxrec, their hometown is the same. Also Ricardo is fighting on the Mijares card this Saturday according to a press release... boxrec record: http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=377785&cat=boxer
MIJARES: “I’m ready and I’m sure I’m going to beat my opponent. I’m not going to say if it’ll end early or go the distance, but I’m prepared for anything because it’s a big responsibility to be fighting at home. We’re not friends but we’re not enemies, either. We’re just rivals for this fight.” MUNOZ: “I’m ready for this fight. I’m going to knock Mijares out and take both belts back to Venezuela.” Internet live stream info: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/boxing-live-feed.php
Once again Mijares put on a great showcase of his talent. What a beautiful 12 rounds of skills and excitement. Also, Cristian's power is a bit underrated, Munoz took everything, but the KO wasn't far - Mijares landed some crisp shots. The split decision once again is a bad joke. The WBA issued a statement before the fight how bad it is that the local commission only approved Gustavo Padilla as a South-American judge while they (South-American judges) are as good as their US collagues. But in the end, it was Mr. Padilla who scored the fight terribly wrong in favor of Munoz - it was a clear UD, 116-111 for Mijares is a good score IMO. Forget the Arce rematch - let Jorge fight Vazquez - BRING ON MIJARES VS MONTIEL!!!
