Froch unified the IBF and WBA belts last night and became WBA "Super" Champ in the process. Ward had the WBC and WBA "Super" belt and lost the WBC strap due to inactivity and more so because Sulaiman had other plans for that trinket, so Ward refused the "emeritus" status. Sakio Bika is now fighting the Mexican (surprise, surprise!) Marco Antonio Periban for the vacant WBC belt. Does this mean that; A) There are now 2 WBA "Super" Champions in the division? B) Ward also got stripped of his "Super" belt and only has the Ring belt left? C) There's some other stupid construction I missed in my confusion.
Froch is not the Super champ. The WBA will list him as the Unified Champ. That's what they did with Alvarez.
The mistake is in thinking Froch unified anything. He retained the IBF and 'won' second spot in the WBA. The 'Super Champ' is the real champ, and it's still Ward.
I think the official status is Ward WBA 'Super' Champion Froch WBA 'Unified' Champion. Don't quote me on that it's all very confusing. The belt situation is all ****ed up, I know 1 belt per division is out of the question but is 1 belt per organisation too much to ask for?
Froch seems to think Ward has no belts, and he has two, meaning he holds all the cards lol... Ward is Ring Champion, vacated WBC emeritus , and is WBA super champion. While also defeating the lineal and ring LH World Champion Dawson last September, along with being P4P 2 in the world. Froch has the IBF belt and a paper trash WBA belt. Ward holds the cards, Frochy boy.
How can the belts be meaningless if one can become the lineal champion by unifying the belts? It doesn't matter whether Froch won last night, or Kessler did; Ward is still better than BOTH of them.
of course. yet froch is making demands :rofl don't give two ****s about ward-froch 2.. that's right there with mayweather-khan
Well the problem is that boxrec listed last night's fight as being for the 'Super' WBA belt. So if that's indeed correct, one would assume that Ward is out. But then, i haven't heard anything in the press about the WBA stripping Ward, so it's all very confusing. Maybe boxrec just effed up, they tend to do so sometimes.
And thats what they did with Gamboa. The moment he lost his IBF strap because Arum did not let him weigh in at the second weigh in (IBF 10lb rule) Gamboa lost his WBA belt because he was not unified anymore. At that particular time the WBA had a "super" champ (John), unified champ(Gamboa), a regular champ and an interim champ :rofl They were just milking the featherweight division.
I wish Tito would come out of retirement and clear this mess up. It would be easy work for Tito all he has to do is knock out ward and the rest would fall in line..
