This is what happens when the king of the division either retires or is dethroned.

Calzaghe rules the division for years, then he finally retires and the contenders step up.

Hatton ruled 140 for years, now he's retired/dethroned and all of a sudden its the hottest division just because the next tier of fighters in khan, bradley et al are now the top tier.

its quite simple and only the stupidity of the OP makes it anything other than

    cheers

    :patsch Unbelieveable.
The SMW division may be competitve but the talent isnt as deep overall.
Forget Calzaghe, he was a dominant champ and an unfair marker, but realise this
Dirrell hasnt beaten anyone of note and has a lesser SMW than Veit
AA is a former MW who lost to Dirrell with a limited SMW resume
If you look at B Mitchell for example, he has better SMW pedigree than Abraham, Dirrell, Johnson, Green, etc
G Johnson couldnt compete at SMW years ago losing to Ottke and Branco, but now is a competitor. Should tell you everything

Fighting leftovers dosent diminish a fighters standing at all, but it dosent give a true indication either, as the losing fighter already has known exposed holes in their game. The example you give of Bika is a good one as until Calzaghe beat him, there wasnt much knowledge of him, but after Joe beat him, you could see that its not wise to brawl and get rough with Bika by watching Calzaghes mistakes, but doing it first and beating these guys first clearly is what gives the real standing.
Calzaghe beat Jimenez in a boring fight years ago, when Jimenez was unknown. When Calzaghe beat him clearly and showed how it was done, B Magee fought Jimenez in his next fight to test his level with a game plan and looked as impressive in doing so. But as anyone knows Magee isnt at Calzaghes level and never will be. Thats what I mean by the real standing

That was an unfair comparrison I made there, but was highlighting how shallow the division is in talent, compared to the previous generation. I could have put it that Dirrell isnt as accomplished a SMW as M Veit and of a similar but slightly better level to Gutknecht.
Ward I wrote only had 1 name on his resume against an already beaten fighter who was unwell.
I also wrote all Ward and Bute are doing is feasting on left overs of the past champs

 Complete fail as you miss all the facts like G Johnson couldnt compete at SMW years ago losing to Branco and Ottke, not to mention Sheika and Vanderpool, but is now a S6 fighter :dead.

Its that simple right :patsch. Fool

I totally agree. When I said "Even when he was still green, he beat Bika as well as Calzaghe did.", I didn't mean to imply that Bute was on Calzaghe's level. :good
He still had to have the ability to apply the gameplan to beat Bika, though. It was a good test at the time. Without putting him on equal standing with Joe, that win had to put him in good standing nonetheless.

Good post :good, and someone who I think understands the thread, and realises its not an attack on any SMW.
SMW is possibly my favourite division and the S6 has provided many great fights. But I think you know what I mean when I note 14 losses Johnson couldnt compete at SMW years ago but is now a SUPER 6 fighter
