Does Kessler still keep his belt having left the tourniment injured? If he cant fight maybe his title should become vacant? And like we had with Vitali he becomes champion in recess and gets a crack at the title when he's well enough to fight again. Surely he cant go n take his belt n sit on it?
They ****ed it up from the start. Guys should have been under contract with a set per fight amount.. say 1 million per fight in the pre-, 2 million for semi-, and 10 million to the winner, 5 to the loser. Fights should have all been on the same night, same venue. Fights should have been 3 months apart for each round, can't make the next round, automatic loss by DQ (not on real record). This could all be wrapped up now.
The problem with that is, as the tourney progresses, your popularity may grow and the money will not be a reflection of what you're actually worth. Andre Ward's stock for example has increased considerbly since it started. I would think your suggestion would have originally been put on the table, but I doubt any fighter with common sense would limit their options to such a restrictive contract.
the one that pisses me off the most is how is it that the venues and purses werent set from the beginning when they signed the contracts?
Funny thing is I raised most of these points before the thing started. I knew that all the fighters wouldnt finish, only a fool would think that fighters could fight that many fights vs top level guys and be OK. Most of the bitching NOW is coming from European fans that are unhappy with the outcomes of the fights, Its funny that when I mentioned why Ward had to fight Kessler, Dirrell, and Taylor. while Froch had to fight AA and Kessler and Dirrell. Kessler and AA didnt have to fight each other isnt it thier promoter that put this thing on, or got it started??? People said it didnt matter. Now you clowns want to cry about how it was set up for Ward. Where should Ward fight??? Oklahoma City?? or Sydney vs two replacement fighters???
If the fights were on the same night in the same place they wouldnt have been able to generate enough money to pay the fighters
Yes, there are some definite problems with it, but overall I think it's been a very nice experiment. I hope the format continues. Most of your points are valid. In my opinion, though, the doctor one is not. There's something dirty about having your own doctors because you can't trust a team to be truthful about the health of a fighter. It's taking things a step too far.
I love how you turn this into a euro v usa thing, it isnt, its the tournament as a whole, Carl Froch had the WBC strap....why shouldnt he have just done a Ward and said ''i want every single fight in nottingham or im not doing it''.... but he didnt, because he has balls. Proven time and time again. Ward should have fought at least one of his fights on foreign soil already, as every other fighter had too. So far Ward has had everything tipped in his favour, proven by the location of his fights.
It's just too damn long ... From the start I was saying that it could have even been a Super 8 but in a direct elimination format. Only 3 rounds; 8 fighters; quarter finals; semi finals and then the final, basically reuniting the 8 best 168lbs guys which would also guarantee that the IBF - WBC & WBA belts would be unified at the end. The tournament ends within 14 months at most !
You lot complaining about the Super six are worse then bitches on there rags. As I already said, Cancel your Showtime subs and don't watch.
Don't watch it if you're not interested. This was the first time anyone has attempted a tournament format like this - next time if you know all the answers feel free to start your own.
