Sauerland came up with the idea, the format, chose the fighters, et, et. All Showtime did was provide the bank roll, and the Television outlet.
Yea. well what did you guys expect? Of course they set it up so the Americans could win. Even getting a Jamaican who can fight and calling him American. HAHa The whole Ward has 6 points regardless thing is bull****. I hope Bika knocks his ass out. Or at least gets Ward with a few headbutts to give him a lil double vision. War Bika!!!!
If you expected this thing to go off without a hitch I guess you can call it a failure. I didn't expect it to be perfect. So I'm not that upset. The way I look at it we got to see fights that may have never happened. Too many great matchups never happen. On some levels one might call it a failure but the harshest I could call it was a glorious failure. I'd hate to think that something like this would never be tried again. Now that would be failure.
I couldn't disagree more. From the very beginning anyone and everyone knew it would be incredibly difficult to keep things going on the defined path given all of the inherent complications in boxing, not to mention the vast length of time over which the tournament has been contested. Have there been problems? Absolutely. Have boxing fans got the opportunity to see the best fight the best repeatedly? Most definitely. The Super Six tournament was exactly what boxing needed and exactly what the fans wanted. We've seen some incredible fights already and there are even more great fights on the horizon. Point 4 on your list is accurate and anyone pulling out should not be allowed to fight for the duration of the tournament. Prize money for each round of the tournament should have been laid out in advance such that idiot moves like what Dirrell is doing wouldn't have happened. Showtime has been promoting him and now he wants to fight to get more money and that's wrong. Next time the contracts should be more thorough to prevent idiocy like this. Overall the tournament is a success and the spirit of the tournament is just what the doctor ordered.
The tournament's goal was to crown a SMW champion. With Bute probably facing the winner, we'll have a champion, so I don't think the tournament is a failure. Too long, too many replacements, but the main goal is more possible now that it was at the beginning. Showtime did the only thing they could to save it.
Their biggest mistake was scheduling such large time periods between fights and dragging the whole thing out for so long. Who the **** wants to be tied to something like this for 2+ years, if you have other reasonable options. However I am still very grateful for the fights they have had and look forward to the winner(almost surely Andre Ward) fighting Bute.
1. Probably true. If they do it again, they should decrease the time between fights. 2. Then they shouldn't sign the ****ing contracts. 3. I'm definitely appreciative of this. Without the tournament do you think there is any possible way we would have seen Dirrell vs. Froch, Abraham vs. Dirrell, Abraham vs. Taylor, Ward vs. Green, Ward vs. Kessler, Kessler vs. Froch, Johnson vs. Green, and on and on already? Not to mention that November 27 we get to see Abraham vs. Froch and Ward vs. Bika.... Oh, and then we get to see more action resulting from that, and more from that. This tournament is a blessing and it blows my mind to hear people calling it a "failure". If all we got to see was the fights we've already seen from it, it would be a BIG SUCCESS. Boxing fans are never satisfied. When the best don't fight the best, they ***** and cry. Then when the best fight the best, they cry about that as well. This tournament a "failure"? What a terrible joke.
Oh, and I forgot, not only do we get all of this, but Showtime just signed Lucian Bute so they could get him to fight the winner of the tournament when it's all over. Anyone who has a problem with what Showtime is doing isn't a boxing fan.
1. Biased in that we have the best fighters in the world fighting each other? Fact: The best 168lbers in the world are all facing each other. Bute is waiting in the wings for the winner since he wasn't included in the tournament. 2. I'm not American. Get your head out of the sand.
Yeah. The Super 6 has had a number of failures(****ups that could have been avoided), but overall it has been a massive success and the best thing that has happened to boxing in probably over 30 years. The Super 6 has set a pretty good basis on how to sort out heaps of other weight divisions, and by addressing some of the problems which occurred, should work a treat.
1. at least we still have aa, cf, aw 2. we have surprises: bika (next surprise) and johnson (has surprised us) 3. kessler is really having a problem, dirrel maybe is too. it's normal, man!
Exactly. Did this tournament run perfectly smoothly? No. Did everyone - Showtime, the fans, etc. - learn something in the process and will it be easier and better managed next time? A resounding yes. I for one would love a "Super Six" in every division. I mean, really, it just sorts through "who's who" and lets the fighters prove their worth.
Im quite pleased....its survival of the fittest, you break down you dont continue then youre knocked out of the tourney. Hey, only the strong survive. How else where we ever gonna see Kessler fight someone dangerous. We wouldnt have had AA vs Froch or Kessler vs Froch ..... I am quite pleased Johnson is in the tourney he hustles, trys to fight, engages and is never a dull dance partner. We have 3 or 4 potential great scraps yet! quit yammering we wouldnt have gotten any of these fights without the super 6 putting up the dough.
STFUUUUUUUUUUUUU This thing has gotten the division to stop dicking around and got everyone fighting each other. The fighters who made excuses to not fight can ****ing get out of the tournament WHO CARES! The stars got a little more aligned because of this tournament and THATS ALL THAT MATTERS stop your bitching. :deal
