To say this tournament hasn't been a success so far, or is a "disgraceful farce" is just rediculous. Before the tournament, how much were people talking about froch, ward, kessler, AA, dirrell? Answer, not much at all. Froch couldn't even get on British TV, ward and dirrell we unknowns to most the world and kessler was pretty much under the radar since JC. Within 1 fight, and they're pretty much the most talked about fighters outside of PBF/pac/SSM. In the 1st round, we saw AA get the exposure he deserves in a good fight with an explosive knockdown. In the ward vs kessler fight we got a big upset and the arrival of a great new face and possible future p4per. True, the other fight was contraversial, but all thats done is made people talk about the tournament and fighters even more. Would the result of the fight have been any different if it wasn't in the super 6? no. And what exactly are people bickering about now, that fighters got an injury, or that some judges MIGHT be from Dirrel's hometiwn and that he MIGHT get a hometown decision. Sounds a bit of a weak criticism to me. On the +ves: we have the best fighting the best, a newformat for boxing and much needed exposure for some great boxers. I think the tournament is doing just fine thanks
OK, so it was a normal fight where one man was so much better then the other one... nothing happend which was out of the ordinary or something??? And there weren't treads on this forum about headbutts and elbows, so no controverse whatsoever??? Of couse there was controverse from this bout, a lot even! I'm not saying Kessler would have won if Ward obeyed the rules, course I think it still would have gone to Ward, but we really never know now do we?!
The headbutt didnt happen until the 4th, and the first major one didnt happen until the 9th. Inbetween those 2 butts Kessler was getting schooled. I know you were lead to believe that Kessler was god by your euro copatriots. But anyone could see he was overrated against limited opposition and the first elite fighter he came across he couldnt cope. Same thing happened here. Are you honestly saying those butts had anything to do with what was happening in the bout? Just a convienent excuse nothing more. If they fought 10 times Ward wins 10 times. Kessler had no shot. I know you were
There was only controversy for Kessler fans. When a southpaw fights an orthodox fighter there is bound to be head clashes, if Kessler had a chance in that fight he would have looked more competitive then he did.
So there was!!! And there where a lot of articles all over the web about it, not all in favour off Kessler but it was mentioned in almost every article about the fight... That's controversy (with e on the end is Dutch, sorry bout that) how ever which way you slice it. I already said it's very doubtfull Kessler would have won it, but it could be. The headbutts, and damage clearly prevented him from having some offence going in the later rounds. And some of the headbutts looked clearly deliberate. So it was a bit of an unfair fight.
