I don't see this tournament as a step forward or as something special from the fights that get made point of view, because most of the fights would have happened anyway, as I showed in previous posts. Showtime did what was best for them, not for boxing, obviously, and I think they could have done better. Don't want to blame anyone, but if anyone should have grabbed the bull by its horns, it should have been HBO.

HBO should have had Froch v. Dirrell and Kessler v. Ward on one night, and Bute v. Andrade and Stieglitz v. Bika/Green on another night and then the two winners on each night facing each other, something like:

Kessler v. Froch and Bute/Andrade v. Stieglitz/Green

and then the two winners facing each other in the grand finale for the unified and undisputed Championship.

HBO had the money, the fighters and the promoters would have played ball and things could not have turned out better.

As I said, a hell of a missed opportunity. This is how I see it anyway.

There's no evidence that all these fights 'would have happened anyway' though. It's not happening in other divisions.

Pavlik is with HBO and has managed to avoid fighting any of the other champions in his division. Dawson and Hopkins are both with HBO, no sign of them fighting.

What's happening in the SMW division is better than any other division currently. To complain that it is a missed opportunity is a great example of glass half fullism.

They think taylor is shot, and even if he's not, they think they can rig the results like they so often do. If a really suspect decision comes through or if things go badly for the Sauerland fighters, expect the super six to be off.

It just seems foolish to me that boxing fans are putting their faith in Sauerland to put on an exciting and impartial boxing tournament. They are helping to set up a tourney where they have a vested monetary interest in some but not all the fighters. That's a recipe for disaster.

I hope I'm wrong but I've got this bad feeling that I'm not.
