Another excellent ****ysis Rummy. Very well balanced and entertaining. You got yourself a
    new subscriber.

Some posters might disagree but l see a lot of similarities between this fight not occurring and the Dempsey-Wills fight never occurring. (excluding the racial aspects of course)

    Thanks Vanboxingfan - appreciate that.
    :thumbsup

I confess to not being well enough informed on this to voice an opinion. Can you elaborate a bit?

Well simply the fight never occurred and Wills was the consensus #1 for a number of years.

Some say that it was racially motivated as a reason that it never occurred, but most of what I read indicates that's Dempsey's promoter, Tex Rickard, felt the downside risk, which included the potential for deadly riots, just wasn't worth the $$$.

So essentially it was a business decision. But like Lewis - Bowe, blame was assigned to a particular fighter.

So in the video you presented, Bowe was clearly the cause of the fight not occurring to many people, but as you correctly pointed out, it had more to do with the business of boxing then with the fighters themselves.

For the most part, you'd swear that the majority of fans thing that the fighters themselves have 100% say on who their opponents are, which is simply not the case.

this one is the case where the pro fight would be different to the amateur fight, i suspect that 92 bowe would stop lewis.

You can see from both the Ruddock fight and his fight against Bowe in the amateurs that Lewis was very sloppy at times. Unless Lewis caught his man with something special, I don't see any other result than a Bowe win at this stage of their careers.

I just saw the video, and it was very good. I agree with most of what Rumsfeld says.

Incidentally, the quality of the posters on this forum - or at least those who post on the "Classic" section - are exceptional. Is this basically the most knowledgeable boxing forum around? ;)

Some of these guys are incredibly knowledgeable especially on their favourite fighters. McVey will be able to give you a day to day account of Dempsey's life story and Klompton can give you Greb's geneaology going back 200 years ... lol. You think I'm joking :yikes

To balance things General is utter krap and infested with trolls :yep

    Thanks Webbiano, appreciate it!

    I tend to agree...

...and am definitely inclined towards this line of thinking 1992-94.

That's not to say I can't see several scenarios whereby Lewis could beat Bowe in that time frame. I just don't see those as being as likely, myself.

    Thank you!

In my time at ESB (dating back to 2002), a slew of extremely knowledgeable fans have made their way through this subforum.

I imagine you would have approved of the selection of clips utilized to help the narrative along.
