When you've got an opponent hurt, you concentrate on where you've hurt him. That's professional boxing. I was rooting for Vitali, and while he was outboxing Lennox, he got stopped, fair and square. A stoppage on cuts is a legitimate win, just like a KD that lasts 10 seconds. A win for Vitali would have catapulted him up several places on my list and dropped Lennox several spots. But the result was TKO 6. End of story.
That cut was initially caused by the glove strapping, then there was a clash of heads and then Lewis threw that punch. That cut was caused by accident and then Lewis deliberately exacerbated it. Vitali got robbed.
yeh sure it was an accident that Vitali didnt know how to defend himself against an ATG. So all three of the glove strapping, lewis head AND Lewis Dreadlocks all landed on that tiny bit of skin. OR Lewis just hit Vitali.
Yes, you can punch an opponent accurately in the mouth/nose/chin area, you can throw an uppercut. If you are such a big puncher then what is the need to target a cut close to the opponents eye and being perfectly okay with the idea of permanently blinding him for your desperation to avoid a loss.
If Lewis was a Floyd type touch and run puncher, i could understand. But Lenni was a powerful puncher with knockout power in both hands. He had the ability to punch Vitali in the face/nose/chin area and knock him out, but he chose the cowardly way out by choosing to punch that cut close to the eye and he was willing to permanently blind his opponent in order to the short term gain of winning a boxing match. Extremely unsporting behavior and the post fight interview told everything we needed to know about his sportsmanship.
FFS, man get over it ! Lennox got the stoppage, and he did it within the rules. You're making Klitschko fans look like whiners.
This is what happens when there are so many question marks over a fight and when a fighter chooses not to rematch another opponent
Good post. The only thing I disagree with is that I think that Vitali would have won the rematch, Lewis knew it and that's why he never rematched. It must have been quite demoralizing to see a guy with half his face punched off raging lke a maniac that the fight had been stopped and bouncing around full of energy while you yourself are gasping for breath. I think Lewis by that point had simply gotten old and that this was the best performance he could have produced against Vitali. In a way I can understand him retiring and not wanting to be dragged out by his heels in front of the world.
