The Tarver who turned up against Woods V Calzaghe, who wins?

Tarver wasn't that impressive against Woods, Clinton was just a whole different level of **** that night

He was still very inactive and clearly lacking in stamina, or at least confidence in it. He'd be completely overwhelmed, especially in mid to close range, he's a poor inside fighter and I believe Joe would sort him out with those inside flurries. He relied almost exclusively on the straight left against Woods, that **** isn't going to fly against an elite fellow southpaw

 

It doesn't matter who Calzaghe fights, the haters will still come up with some excuse: too old, too young, unproven, bum.

The guy is in a no-win situation.

Tarver's own performance is a seperate issue. I wasn't impressed with his inactivity and laziness. Also one dimensional, there wasn't very much punch variety, he's a one trick poney with a reasonable defence if he's allowed to get comfortable

Woods couldn't adapt, it would be naive to think you are going to compete with Joe Calzaghe, by sitting on the ropes and firing the occasional straight left.

 

what, so you can use those excuses when he wins?

lets face it, the fans in the past three years have called for lacy, lacy got whooped, excuses.

they called for kessler, kessler got outclassed, excuses.

they then called for driving miss daisy, joe wins a close fight, excuses.

some of you ****ers will simply never be happy and never give the man his dues.

 

And those three fights took place when Joe was past his prime (as was hopkins as well).

I'm running a thread on the Brit forum regarding Joe's legacy. Your input would be welcome, because I know that you know your ****. Feel free to add your analysis there as well.

Some even criticise him for not facing Johnson....I seem to remember back in 2004 when JC was supposed to go up to LHW to face that very man he was accused of 'fleeing' the SMW division just as it was heating up with the two young up and coming warriors Kessler and Lacy!

The guy just can't win. He should fight Pavlik. Having the distinction of beating the best at 160, 168 and 175 (no Dawson isn't it overanalysts) would really be something imo.

 

If he wins. I didn't have any excuses for Lacy, Kessler, or Hopkins. Those were all great wins. I just want to see good fights.

 

That's not necessarily true as knowledgeable boxing fans will give him his due and haters will come up with excuses no matter what. Hopkins was old no doubt but still capable when he fought Calzaghe and Calzaghe gets credit from me for the win. Calzaghe's performance however wasn't impressive even to Joe's hardcore fans. Young challengers to Calzaghe such as Dawson and Pavlik are proven to a degree and depending on Joe's performance against them he would get his credit for beating them.

 

Excuse me? Can you provide a source to back up your ridiculous claim?
