That was a sad day. I can only liken it to Taylor vs Chavez. Silva was trying but getting beat up. Anything can happen in the championship rounds. Chael was not afraid to go get it and he so nearly did.
Taylor was ruined that fight, only thing what gets hurt Sonnen is her ego. thats why boxing is so cruel, when you lose you usually lost more that just the fight.
The most marked difference is that Chavez started to get going in the middle rounds, breaking down Taylor more with each round, to the point that he was able to slow him down to continue breaking him down. Silva had some moments where he tried to get back into the fight, but Sonnen kept taking him down and stopping it. The only comparative that really fits is getting an "at the last moment possible" surprise stoppage.
Totally agree but I do think that Sonnen got a touch tired and got sloppy. Silva's endurance suprised me. I generally mean the ending of the fight though. As a war, you thought that one fighter had it won and it was a sad ending for the underdog.
I disagree, if anything it was that one punch that turns the fight around. Like Nunn/Toney or DLH coming out in the 12th against Quartey. It was one helluva fight.. Sonnen is a dog, and him and Silva have all the heart in the world. One can only feel for Sonnen. It was like watching Rocky only it didn't have a happy ending.
It was not like any of those fights in Chavez vs. Taylor, JCC started slowly breaking down Taylor earlier in the fight inflicting lots of damage even though losing on the cards. DLH vs. Quartey a 10-8 was able to help Oscar win on the cards a 10-8 for Silva wouldn't have won it for him in the 5th. Its like John Tate vs. Mike Weaver, Weaver was getting dominated and with 40 seconds left in the 15th round one punched Tate
very sad ending but in another way it was a bloody great ending, i wanted a chael win but what anderson did is historic and quite possibly one of the most fantastic moments to ever happen in the octagon some say he didnt deserve it but, chael started to slide he only has himself to blame anderson took advantage of chaels tiredness, anderson showed how great a champ he is, chavez taylor is a good comparison and thats one of chavezs most memorable bouts
Silva had been working towards subs for 5 rounds. I said that is what I was really worried about leading into the fight. Like you said, Silva finally got the right timing, the right situation, chael was tired etc and he LOCKED IT! Simples. Chavez did the exact same thing. He was looking for big shots from round 1 but it wasn't until the right moment, right timing and with Taylor tired that he finally finished it.
taylor's hilarious IMO as if memory servez correct he started clowning or showboating right before he got clocked out. make matters worse i remember thinking "he's only showboating because he's tired what a douche" then he was hammered. so hard done by or unlucky i would give to sonnen i think, lol.
Has to be Taylor. Unlike Sonnen, Taylor was actually beating Chavez everywhere - jab, combos, inside, outside etc He lost with like 2 seconds left. In his mind he must have thought I just need to get up but it wasn't enough because the lights were on but nobody was home.
