Reminds me of this book (which I highly recommend): [ame]http://www.amazon.co.uk/Boxings-Ten-Commandments-Essential-Training/dp/1884654282/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1291886875&sr=8-1[/ame] The ten commandments are 1)Fight from the boxer's stance with rhythm 2)Learn to move skilfully in all directions 3)know and master your range 4)obey the laws of punchign and punching power 5)make the jab your best punch 6)master the mechanics of the major punches 7)master the defences of each attack 8)angle in and out on different lines 9)blend and master offensive and defensive skills 10) follow a plan, be it workout or competition. ^this ten sound pretty basic, but I guarantee any boxer reading the book will find at least a few things he should be doing or doesn't do anymore.
nice list. the only thing i would somjewhat disagree on is making the jab your best punch. not everyone's style calls for the jab to be their best. example, frazier, tyson.
Yeah in the book it kinda goes into more detail. I think the meaning is that you just need to be reeeal comfortable with the jab, because you'll be using it alot. ..although it's definitely not my best punch, and I'm often criticised for not using it enough lol.
A friend of mine who used to be in my camp fought just like frazier. He had an odd jab because it was more of a range finder. He wouldn't even attempt to land it really, it was almost thrown above his opponents head. I also think it helped him get into a rythem of throw a jab, weave, weave hook, weave, jab, jab, weave, hook.... different variations like that.
Definitely a solid list. I'd also like to point out how I enjoyed the fact that the number 8 created a smiley face.
