The game has changed from the old days. Fighters can fit into weight classes much more easily now and plus the fights are shorter. So people think 'Well maybe I'll just pack on some muscle and move up to junior middle' rather than grinding there body to welterweight. The extra muscle doesn't have as much of a drag on endurance as it would in a 15 rounder.

Neither way is 'better' but they will achieve different things.

If it was hore**** then the 100 meter world record would not be at a ridiculous place right now, homerun records would never be broken, long jump records would never be broken, power lifting records would never be broken? get my point? if the older training methods were not inferior then atheltes would not be as much stronger and faster then they are now.

Have the 1945 Packers play the 2010 Packers and see how many men are killed on the field.

It's just not relevant. And even if it was, there are more pertinent subjects.

I believe my eyes. If training is so much better, why is boxing not so much better? The bottom line speaks loudest. Boxing doesn't look all that different to me.

How does any of what you just said pertain to boxing?

The training methods that make sprinters etc more explosive can also be used in boxing. And personally I thinks this shows. Hard to know how big a role illegal substances plays, though.

Does it not make you wonder sometimes how often we can have these discussions over and again?? I mean one day we're going to get to the outer-edges of boxing and then I guess just stop logging on...only so many times you can put basically the same guy right I guess.

Hopefully PP will come along since he knows these things well, much more in detail than I do. But speaking in general terms it would be the use of supplements and weights. More scientific methods should also help athletes (in all fields, including boxing) to optimize their training regime.

You think training with weights makes fighters "more explosive"? It made Jones less so.

Supplements certainly don't make fighters more explosive.

    Weights make athletes stronger.

    This.

I would ask what great advancements in training technology, nutrition, etc. have made in the modern game? What specifically about modern fighters is better, except their P90X abs (because we all know how important those are, he said, rolling eyes furiously).

It doesn't matter how good the methods are if you aren't using them right.

Agreed; I would further that to say that would make them the wrong methods, not good ones.

That's my stance. What's the point of all this fast-twitch muscle fiber growth and andro supplements and EPO and isometric ball drills if the skillset from sparring and consistent fights aren't there?
