The US has over 320 million people living here and there is a strong sports culture. I'd say most of our best athletes 6'4" and over are playing in the NFL or NBA if they decided to pursue athletics. It just makes sense to pursue free college rather than getting bent over and ****ed in the ass by managers and promoters while you make peanuts. Meanwhile at the same time discovering that reaching top level boxing is almost impossible while simultaneously taking punches to the head for a living. I cannot really imagine a worse career choice than boxing. It's terrible.

Of course HW boxing is suffering in America due to other sports. They offer free college. For many kids, coaches and parents the choice is clear. Free college or getting punched in the head and bent over by promoters?

that still doesn't change the fact that that counted in the 80's and 90's too, and almost every other country on the planet.
Sure there are people that would have become incredible windsurfers, tennisplayers, speedskaters and boxers, that profited from good educations or better options in other sports, but that has always been the case. It's not something from the last decade(s).

There is absolutely different muscle development. Bodybuilders have a different muscle tone than strength athletes. Now bodybuilders use lots of steroids and take down their water weight and bodyfat before a competition. But they try and get their muscles as big as possible which requires moderate reps and moderate weight lifted and lots of food. This type of training causes the muscles to be filled with water and fluid giving them a bloated, bigger look, but lacking the strength of a strength athlete. You look at a powerlifter (especially those in the lower weight classes where they are leaner) they have a harder, grainier, more hardened look. That's because those who train for strength will actually have more myofibrils in their muscle fibers than those who train for size. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger understood this concept before science explained it. He would train sometimes with high weight and low reps to increase the tone of his muscles. Bruce Lee is a perfect example of a strength athlete being extremely toned. Obviously that has a lot to do with him being lean with little bodyfat. But he didn't train to blow up his muscles with water and fluid.

I think you are underestimating the pull of the NCAA scholarship here in America.

Maybe I do, don't have such things in place here. But I still don't believe the impact is that huge.
One of the things I do believe is that it's much harder for Americans HW's now to pull a Holyfield and get away with it though.

This entire post is flawed so will just comment on the athletes who CHOSE not to become boxers? Lol

First off it takes a special mind set to do any combat sport, just BC you are big athletic doesn't mean much. Go through the history of the sport you will see that. You actually NEED to have some sort of genetics to fight to excell at this sport,no football, basketball or whatever player automatically gets a pass.

Genetically anyone who has fighters in their family has a distinct advantage more than not. It comes naturally to them, there no proof top athletes from other sports would excell at boxing. Do you really think Joshua looks good BC other big athletes decided not to take up boxing? :babeando:

Saying there'd be better HWs if all the big, athletic people didn't choose football or basketball is like saying there'd be better scientists if all the super smart people didn't choose art majors.

Also, tinman makes it seem like anyone can play college or pro basketball or football. In reality, only a very small percentage of athletes play beyond high school. The NCAA's own website talks about the overwhelming odds of playing college/pro sports.

And the "free college" thing is BS. Athletic scholarships aren't the free ride people think they are.

There are a lot more kids going to college for free playing basketball or football than kids going to college for free because of boxing.

Again, athletic scholarships aren't some free ride.

Here's a site that shows the odds of athletes playing basketball or football beyond high school: http://www.scholarshipstats.com/varsityodds.html

And maybe one reason there are more kids going to college "for free" playing basketball or football than kids going to college "for free" because of boxing is because colleges don't offer boxing programs, let alone scholarships for boxing.

    The bolded is my point.

And I would love to see the odds of kids who are 6'4" or taller. I was a high school athlete too you know. And so was every other random ass kid I knew too.
