Because he should be giving us reasons to keep calling him the P4P best. Being called the best fighter in the world is a privelage so doing a WrestleMania for another $20 million while waiting for another DLH fight is all wrong for boxing. At this point the same rules shouldn't apply for Cotto and Mayweather. Cotto is trying to become the best while Floyd's job is to keep giving us reasons for why we call him that. The road to Mayweather isn't exactly through Gomez but fighting Margarito sure does help. For the same logic is why a DLH rematch AFTER WHAT HE HAS DONE THIS YEAR does not help his case. Neither does saying a Cotto fight at this point ain't worth it since it took him so long to get on PPV. It took Cotto even less time to get on PPV so how is that fair? Not to mention allegedly rejecting Margarito twice. Where did you have DLH ranked in you're P4P list when he was fighting Floyd this time last year? Besides having a name their wasn't much of a reason to have him in the top 10 at all because he just wasn't active enough. Yeah he won a belt from Mayorga but did not even make a defense until one year later? That ain't right. Cotto would sign up for a DLH fight right away mainly for the money but I bet after he won he would be using that same victory for a reason to fight Floyd. Margarito is to more dangerous than DLH because he is a lot more active as of late.
Again, saying Mosley is far past his best is purely your opinion, and he's shown otherwise in his performances as of late. And you fail to mention his victory against Quintana, in which he dominated what some have as a top 5 welter in a way Mayweather is yet to do against a quality opponent at this weight class. And the difference is, yes, Cotto would take a DLH fight if given the chance, but he'd also take the Mayweather fight, which is more than we could say for Floyd at this point in time.
this has got to be the dumbest rematch ever. DLH didn't even come close to beating mayweather despite what the judges said. It was landslide, potshot victory for Floyd. I'm rooting for DLH but this is going to be the same exact fight all over again. edit: btw , ive watched the fight several times and even at the times it looks like DLH is doing good, he's really not landing anything. He had maybe one or two legitimately good rounds (that I can remember).
He doesn't have to give you anything, and you don't have to call him anything. PBF paid his dues. He is at the twilight of his career. He wants to gain the most before he retires. ANY FIGHTER, including Cotto would want to gain the most before retirement. Well good. Let Cotto fight Margo to compensate ofr the Gomez fight and PBF will fight ODLH after having destroyed fellow P4P champ Hatton. What's the problem? In his last fight PBF nearly killed my boy Hatton. Cotto nearly killed Gomez. Who had a tougher opponent? Plain and simple. PBF can make a butt load of money fighting ODLH, ANYONE including Cotto and Margarito would stop the world if it meant fighting for a gazillion dollars. Within the top 20. Where di you have urkal, Gomez, Judah and Mosley? :| Cotto would fight DLH a million times if it meant getting paid what he would fighting DLH. maybe, maybe not. It's an opinion only.
Agree to disagree my friend.. We just have different expecations of a P4P king :good All I'm getting at is that it will be a whole year of good boxing wasted involving the P4P best if it goes as planned.
If you think me saying Mosley is far past his best an opinion then you my son are new to boxing. Anyone who saw Mosley pre 2001 knows Mosley is not the same combination throwing, speedy power fighter he was in his prime. So quintana is this top notch fighter now for beating Williams? Quintana was nothing more than an unproven B level prospect going into the Cotto fight. Now he is a lucky dog, and the fans including you want to see if beating Williams wasn't a fluke. Well, no serious nor formal attempts to negotiate a fight with PBF have came out of Cotto's camp. Also who are you to say that Cotto would not think about the money his family, extended family, friends and loved ones would benefit from fighting DLH twice? Besides PBF fought hatton in between. Cotto fought Gomez.
*MACH* THANK YOU for putting in words my exact feelings on this fight. Its not that this is some horrible matchup or bad fight... its 1 - He should be fighting Cotto but MORE IMPORTANTLY Their first fight was the biggest fight ever in boxing *AND LET PEOPLE DOWN* I dont know ONE casual fan who came away from that with a high opinion of boxing. This fight will AGAIN draw massive attention to our sport.... only for people leaving talking about how much more exciting UFC is then boxing. Its not mayweather and oscars fault... they will win how they win. Its just this is an inevitable bad night for boxing. You cant expect mainstream fans to appreciate the science of boxing... that is an aquired taste.... good post mach
So Kirk, you would not make money if it meant making other people feel unsatisfied? This fight should be made because it will pay DLH and PBF tons of money. Heck if someone paid cotto 30 million to fight a sack of potatoes he would take it. Anyone would, especially every single one of us.
No no, he's obviously past his best, but arguing that he's any more past it than DLH is just your way of trying to boost Mayweather's performance while downgrading Cotto's. A lucky dog? Quintana is a very skilled fighter who's beaten Julio and Williams now. He's proven he can fight, that's for sure. The fact is, he clearly outboxed Paul in that fight, showing a lot of ability. Cotto is just all wrong for him. Mayweather has made his money. He made close to $50 million last year alone. I would say he owes it to his fans, but he owes it just as much to himself to fight the best. Years from now we'll look back, and will we see how much he made? No. You don't hear people talking about all the money Louis, Ali, Robinson, Armstrong and the likes made. You hear about their legacies are fighters, not business men. It's boxing, after all. Cotto took one easy fight after fighting Quintana, a mandatory in Urkal, Judah and Mosley, then jumped right back into the mix with an upcoming fight against Margarito. That trumps fighting DLH twice and a fighter who had proven he was nowhere near his best at 147 against Collazo, if you ask me.
I don't know if it is lack of memory or the possibility that you will miss a great fight. Missing a great fight would **** me off than buying a shitty fight. Even if all logic tells me not to buy the fight....I will:-(
