I've noticed with some modern HWs that they have very thin legs in relation to their very developed upper bodies. Joshua and Wilder are prime examples, but also Wlad to an extent I'd say. I suppose there must be some thinking behind that. Does anyone know? Because I personally find that the strength and endurance of the legs are very important when I train boxing.
Developing strong legs for boxing doesn't necessarily mean bigger legs. I find that unless I do cleans or direct leg work that my legs won't grow much even if I move a lot when I box.
You typically see fighters with big legs who crouch a lot. Like Tyson, Louis, Marciano, Tua, Galento, Chuvalo, etc The fighters you mentioned seem like they have strange proportions. Joshua's lower body looks like a different person than his upper body.
Calisthenics for when I'm focusing on conditioning and weights when I am focusing on bulking up. I periodize my training and switch on and off. 1 month calisthenics then 2 or 3 months weights depending on my goals. When I fight in the gloves next year I will be doing strictly calisthenics 8 weeks until the first fight.
It's just because they are tall, having longer legs is always going to result in legs looking thin from the knee down. Joshua has massive legs (quads and hamstrings) from doing leg press, deadlifts etc.
