I agree this thread has become dull and i apolgoise to the good people of ESB.

 

I've never disputed it was ever said, just that this "cut the gloves off" didn't seem to surface until around the time of the HBO documentary a(1989/90 ish). Even the BI report of the fight starts of a sentence with: "Nobody believed Ali when he said 'I was going to quit after the 10th'."


This has changed over the years, just like the time duration between rounds 4 and 5 of the Cooper bout.
