what do you make of the timing of the announcement?

It seems to be they’ve moved quick to announce it before AJ KO’s Ruiz and demands a Wilder fight.

Yeah pretty clear that they wanted to secure the next opponent to minimise any discussion of Joshua/Wilder next. Not sure that it was really a smart move as it just further highlights Wilder's teams reluctance to pursue a Joshua fight.

Also the fact that no date or venue as been confirmed when that was used as an excuse to duck signing the contract at the end of 2018 just further blows holes in that excuse.

They are ducking. It's time for AJ to DEMAND a fight with Kownacki. Why? Then Wilder has nowhere to go. He is limited to only two options then: either the winner of Fury vs Whyte, which Wilder will lose, or..face AJ.

The Wilder Bodyguard Council advised by Moneygrabber Haymon are about to reach a dead end. They can't hold off Whyte for much longer and they are running out of bums to face, so Wilder will eventually be forced into tough decisions.

That won't work Kownacki already turned down the fight and is rumoured to be fighting Helenius next. Kownacki is likely tied into a restrictive Haymon contract and so won't have much say on what he can or can't do.

But it wouldn't hurt Joshua to keep offering deals to prospective Wilder opponents and watch them turn down huge paydays it only highlights what people already know, Joshua is being frozen out of the PBC heavyweight stable and it would make any other heavyweights think twice about signing to Haymon.

I think Haymon is hoping Rivas can someone KO Whyte to prevent Whyte getting a shot. Even if Whyte beats Rivas and then somehow beats Fury for the WBC diamond belt, I see some WBC ruling coming and preventing the fight from happening. Whyte is already WBC silver champion why does having the WBC diamond belt change anything. If Whyte does become Diamond champion and get named mandatory to Wilder I expect Ortiz to be named mandatory for the Diamond belt the day after, lol. WBC will rule Whyte needs to take care of his mandatory before getting his mandatory shot.

How much is Ortiz getting paid in this rematch? I’m sure Matchroom/DAZN/AJ can afford some step aside money to match his purse. If that isn’t proving you want the fight, then I don’t know what is.

It still amazes me that there's people out there still thinking AJ is the duck and not Wilder.

I mean, that is truly next level delusion.

I think AJ's side was to begin with. But I think the two sides have swapped over more recently.

I'm past caring. Windmill won't fight anyone decent this year and probably not next. He doesn't seem interested in challenging the best . He won't sell his tshirts that way - his problem.

I'd rather watch Joshua v Fury anyway - the 2 best HWs , and the unified champion (minus the We Be Corrupt paper belt) v the lineal champion. That's the most interesting HW fight by far.

Nah it's always been Wilder and his team ducking the fight it's just become more obvious recently. I had some doubts too as to who was ducking, thought they both wanted it but money wasn't right.

When was Joshua ducking the fight, when he was unifying with Parker? Wilder was very quiet up til the point that it was almost a done deal and then he suddenly called out Joshua, knowing Joshua was committed to Parker.

Or perhaps when Wilder agreed in the summer of 2018 to $15 mill and then Finkel delayed negotiations til the WBC named Povetkin mandatory? Citing reasons such as there was no venue or date so couldn't sign despite doing exactly that with Fury and Ortiz. And when given the April 2019 date refused saying it had to be in 2018 while now he's the one openly delaying the fight saying it will get bigger and Finkel saying it won't happen in 2019.

When Barry Hearn openly said they don't want the fight any time soon. And people joke about the 50Mil, but it still happened. And when Wilder's side were told it had to be April 13th at Wembley, no ifs and no buts. There and then or never. Only for them to change the venue and the date for someone else.

Those to me are not the actions of someone trying to actively make a fight. Just the same as agreeing a 3 fight plan against people who aren't AJ is not an action I would constitute as trying to make a fight happen.

I think anyone trying to claim either side has 100 percent been doing their all to make the fight happen needs to really look at things more objectively. I think Hearn and Co are very keen now. I think they were far from it previously. I think Wilder's side were keen previously, or they at least knew that AJ's side were less keen so flexed a little harder. Perhaps now the reverse is what's happening.
