I'm just wondering what's the motivation for fighters running to sign with TMT... is it just because they want to be associated with 50 and Floyd? Or does TMT have a better business model or something? Don't get me wrong I'm glad there will be another powerhouse promoter to break up the Top Rank/Golden Boy monopoly but I'm wondering if signing with 50 and Floyd is the right move in the long run. I can see young fighters getting caught up in the all "glitz and glamour" and it could affect their career. What do you think ?
What's the worst that can happen? If the company goes belly up, fighters will just sign with GBP. TMT caters to, but is not limited, to young American fighters. They want to work with people they can relate with. Plus, people are always drawn to the hot, new commodity. Perhaps there are Top Rank fighters who want to leave but may not want to work with Team DLH for whatever reason may gladly accept Team Mayweather's services. In that case TMT is a perfect solution.
American fighters have been sort of black balled by promoters in the boxing game recently. GBP and Top Rank go out of their way to cater to Latino and foreign fighters to put on their stables and make them stars. TMT and guys like Al Haymon are pretty much trying to make it so American fighters can get a piece of the pie too. thats a damn good thing for American boxing. especially with 2 highly famous and rich public figures like 50 and Floyd. If Haymon is behind this in anyway, they will really be a force. dont be surprised when you see the TMT stable fill up very quickly.
i think it is great! i am 37 and i am considered a dinosaur. if they r gonna do what they r talkin about doin it will b great. will take me back to my childhood. i cant hardly get my kids to watch boxing but they will watch mma. i dont hate mma, but there is nobody that can tell me a great mma fight is more exciting than a graet boxing match. not even close the problem is getting the names out there. people want to watch boxing they just dont want to watch bad boxing. put the best against the best, and throw in a lil flair ala haye and klits, yyou will have yourself a product!
I don't know if they are catering to young American fighters. So far they reportedly have six fighters and half are international- Yuriorkis Gamboa is Cuban, Billy Dib is Australian and Celestino Caballero Panamanian. I think they are about money like the rest of the promoters in the business.

A lot of people like the idea of being there from the start when something big happens. Is TMT going to be something big? No one knows, but they hve the biggest name in the sport right now Mayweather and that helps. Another thing to consider is that TMT is not getting the "Stars" of the sport. Other than Mayweather they are all with Golden Boy and Top Rank. Although Cotto whould be a huge coup on their part. There getting guys who can headline reagular HBO/Showtime cards or be Oppoents for a GBP/TR headliner. Possibily apear in the feature bout before the main event on a PPV. It's a new company. Give it time to see where it goes.
Mayweather is/was everything these guys can hope to be in terms of being a major power player and earner in the sport. They don't want to be Shane Mosley, HOF career but the salary never meeting the level of competition.
