Should the fight have been stopped?

Obviously, to anyone who wasn't the referee or corner.

Round 10 is where the ref failed in his duty to protect fighters who can't protect themselves or fight back against a brutal beating.

Then we saw the best and worst of boxing.

Briggs must have showed great heart, as he was hurt and had zero chance to win.

The ref and corner men should feel terrible.

Question to those who saw the fight ( I have not yet! ). Was this a worse beating than Holmes vs. Cobb? Worse than Calzage vs. Lacy?

Wrong section? Third thread on this fight in classic. Even one was more than enough.

briggs' corner should not have let him continue around 9-10. the announcers were saying it, everyone on here was saying it. it was completely unnecessary for shannon to take as much punishment as he did.

as far as the ref goes...he has to see that this guy is a warrior and will not quit unless someone stops it and his corner damn sure isnt going to do it. he needed to be saved from himself and the ref dropped the ball.

that being said what heart briggs showed.

It was comparable, but I'd classify the beating Briggs took as worse, as Vitali hits harder than Holmes, and Briggs looked ready to go in a few of those late rounds and the corner never threw in the towel, nor the ref stopped the fight.

The power shots landed by Vitali were by far more than what Cobb caught vs Holmes.

One thing that irks me, the ref not once went to Briggs corner to show he was concerned he was taking too much punishment.

I often see refs go to a fighters corner and warn the fighter directly that he's going to stop it pretty soon if he does'nt show more fight.

Maybe I missed it, but did anyone here see the ref go to Briggs corner?

Briggs corner let him down big time. So did the ref. As Max Baer said when he folded his cards, they didn't pay enough to an execution.

I was yelling at my computer hoping someone should stop it. Briggs

corner obviously could care less about him and at least should be fired.

    Ref-suspension immediately

I'd say a robot 1-2ing an hgh boosted near 40 year old for 12 rounds is the essence of classic boxing

This fight clearly demonstrated Vitali lacks one punch power. His Brother, Wlad, would have had Briggs outta there in 6 rounds. This was a 39 year old washed up Shannon Briggs with torn biceps which Vitali faced. Far from a credible challenger.

"I hate Vitali and love Wladimir!" Yes, we get it, Suzie. We get it.
