Grew up watching boxing in the 60's and 70's from The Olympic and The Forum. Many great Mexican Fighters. This is my list. Olivarez Zarate Sanchez Barrera Morales Chacon JMM Saldivar Chavez Lopez
I’ve always said Napoles was a big part of Mexican boxing but he wasn’t a Mexican fighter. Born, raise, learn to box in Cuba.
A few great Mexicans that you rarely see mentioned in top 10 and are dramatically underrated are Baby Arizmendi, Baby Casanova, Jose Medel and Kid Azteca. Arizmendi, for example, beat five HOF inductees (not THE measuring stick but worth pointing out sometimes) which is more than Chavez, Canto, Lopez, Zárate, Olivares COMBINED. Casanova beat four. Azteca had the longest reign of any belt in history with something like 14 years. Jose Medel was Mexican bantam champ for about 8 in a golden era for Mexican bantams.
