Here is a top 10 list of the biggest hype jobs in boxing atm. 1-Vasly Lomachenko This guy is not even pro yet and people saying he's going to be greater than Whitakker and Chavez Sr. Surreal hype on this guy. 2- Kubrat Pulev 32 years old and can't knock out Travis Walker.. He's still a prospect. What kind of prospect is 32 years old? :roflnut:nut
Not sure about Pirog- yeah, he looked the works for a bit, and had a lot of hype after the Jacobs win, but has been out with injury so long he barely gets mentioned anymore. Golovkin gets insane hype, (and I'm a big fan) - but if he keeps delivering, he could live up to a lot of it. Deontay Wilder's a little bit better than Fury in my book, but not much, and a lot of people are hailing him as the next HW champ already. As for Pulev, well, no-one's gonna say he's the greatest ever, but HWs not exactly stacked behind the Klitz is it? I mean HW is traditionally an older division and if could get through Wlad, he would be a champ at 32. That said, some of the hype might be about making him seem better as a challenge for Wlad. It's hard for me see him winning, but he's better than most that Wlads faced. Lomachenko? Who can tell? The transition from am to pro isn't always smooth, but the WSB can give you something of an idea (and fought at a far higher level than most fledgling pros), and I think his am record is summit like 400-1, which as far as I've able to tell, is the best ever. - if premature hype can ever be justified, it would be for this guy. Time will tell I guess
Seth "The Klitschko killer" Mitchell. The finest HBO hype job. Come on, no? He is good guy and entertaining fighter still.:good
Nothing to do with how I project their short or long term future, but these guys spring to mind for hype relative to accomplishments: 1. Golovkin, no debate about this -Gary Russell, the truth is that so far Kell Brook is 10X more accomplished -Kell Brook, one of ESB's big hype guys of the past 2 years -Fury -Wilder -Gamboa, people are realizing now but his resume never quite warranted his hype despite a couple good to great wins when he was peak but he makes my list because since then reality of inactivity and horrible quality of opposition given his ranking pollute his hype -Miguel Vazquez, controversial I know, but he really has an overrated resume related to how Ricky Burns is viewed specifically as those two are oft compared -Trout, not so much since losing to Saul but before that people made him out to be an era defining LMW -Helenius, pretty obvious here regarding his pre-Chisora hype and still being ranked by some, and still hyped by some too -Manuel Charr, I know that's a lot of HW's but the ESB man love for this guy has gotten out of control from the "who?" reactions he got when announced as Vitali's opponent and by the seemingly massive career boost he got from losing 4 rounds and getting dropped and cut by Vitali Others: Lebedev, Rios, O. Solis, Cleverly, Haye @ HW, Randall Bailey's power Khan and Bute used to own this thrown not long ago so they get a shout out... I will say though that just as much as being the most hyped, these guys also are rightfully among some of the more criticized. As would make sense.
Have to admit I believed the Mitchell hype, it was mainly when he walked through Ibragimov I thought he was legit, never thought his chin would be that bad, I dont see the guy beating anyone good
If you would have asked me back then I would have said that I thought he'd eventually get to the top 10 HW's at some point due to proper promotional and tv opportunities... But after the Chazz fight I knew it was over.
