No footage of 'em or any of their opponents I believe, same reason I can't gauge Pete Herman H2H.

Did he knock out Lynch? I know there is one report that said Wilde stopped him but I thought the consensus was ten round victories for Wilde? Or am I misremembering?

    Fifteen round decision.

It's fair to say "no footage" I think, but Lynch especially was renowned as a technician. Not in the same way Leonard and Tunney were, I don't thin he had their fluidity, but it was the one-two, famed for his left hand and his right cross. No Herman, and Lynch is top ten all time at bantam.

The explanation for his beating these guys has to be "they are **** too". That's all there is really. They're records don't indicate it and nor do their reputations.

    Thought we'll likely never know.

You know when I'm saying **** it's a quick and abrasive term so you know where I'm at. I don't actually mean they are SHITE and rubbish fighters, obviously.

Yeah, Herman is a top ten bantam, Lynch arguably so anyway (I would say no lower than 11 or 12)

As I've already said, I just cannot gauge these guys as a H2H force whereas it's easier to gauge Greb's ability judging by the footage of his opponents that we have. I wouldn't feel comfortable picking him in any hypotheticals either. Wilde I can hypothesise about, but I'm not over awed by him. Sorry Jimmy, you were incredible, but I just ain't.

There are some later fighters I'd pick him against of course, those that I know fall into what he did well. I'm sure Lynch, who also had solid reflexes that allowed him him to slip punches with deft head movement and respond back with cannon balls, doesn't fall into that category.

Jimmy Wilde would spark Charlie Magri for instance. And if he pressed the action he'd end Pone Gingpet's night early. Wilde was a bit smaller than the natural light fly Kunoi Vichai, but he was neck-and-neck with Pone and was not a big hitter. 'Chiquita' Gonzalez? As messy as he was in a gun fight? Wilde would hammer him.

Benny Lynch is incredible on film and Id pick him to thrash the more modern guys above as well. And, we have the only time he was sparked too, when he was clearly pissed up. Like Wilde, we have both sides to go on, except in the footage where Lynch looks good he looks f'n brilliant, even if he didn't receive the widespread acclaim Wilde did. He clearly does possess those attributes.

Is it not feasible that Lynch, whilst not being the devastating hitter in the fight, will be able to use his power more effectively in the bout? Iron chinned, could hit, against a smaller guy who will get into it with him (Wilde was clearly a canny trapsmith banger type, but he isn't going to evade Lynch's storm based on what footage we have so when he gets his timing down it'll likely be when Benny is opening up, which would be beautiful to watch I'm sure) I think with the power the low K.O% and he catches him in an exchange doesn't indicate that Lynch could well hurt Wilde moreso than the other way round.

A harder target to find than Peter Kane 'The Mighty Atom' was, that much is clear to see. Extremely durable (by any standards, that's never a criticism I'd level at the old timers, further back it goes the more likely chance of elongated brutality :D) quick, powerful, smart and consistent was Wilde.

Watching 'em both, I just can't see how Wilde wins.

Anyway, this is a nothing argument. A typically flippant analysis by me has started this? And you already said summat to the degree of 'you have to favour Lynch'

oh christ your hard on Hopkins.Ring magazine said after the Tarver fight that he is the best since leonard and now he gets less and less credit for every very good/great win.

It's interesting that Hopkins has weaker competition than anyone who ranks 51-60 but tops the lot. Strange currencies.

I just agree with ring magazine that he is the best since leonard and certainly rank him above jones as hopkins was slightly before his prime in 93 i don't give him credit for beating jones as jones might aswell have had cancer by the time they had their rematch.Consider this in 2004 hopkins is unanimously voted pound for pound number 1 by a panel of 10 experts and he has beaten pavlik, wright, tarver, pascal and cloud to become champion at 48 since.

I don't really care what Ring says.
