I know this sounds like a cop out but I think it is purely a styles thing and I reckon is Ross and McLarnin fought 100 times they'd take 50 each. In terms of actually objective ranking I agree Ross has to be above him in terms of that trilogy but it's just a hunch I have that against the best names in ww history, jimmy fares better.

I'd say there's no question about that - but he's bigger. He's a bigger fighter. Ross was never really a welterweight. He never weighed in over 143 I don't think.

Comparing them should be about coming to a decision about whether McLarnin would do better against the welterweight field than Ross would do against the lightweight or light-welterweight field.

Ghnouly? Fuller? Sheesh might as well list every fighter Ross ever fought and pad that W list if you're going to go that route.

Don't just half-arse it, go full on :good

As if I didn't give Leonard's opponents any leeway.

Yeah, even forgot to mention Goldie Hess, Jackie Davis 2x, Jackie Burke, amongst others for Ross.

Holman Williams. Yeah. Just amazing....I can't even.

And Saddler's hook coming off the jab is legendary.....was always my favourite 2 punch combo. Coming from a tall guy that hit like that....murder. :!:

It's a horrible, horrible job to pick out of Gans and Duran, that much I am certain of. TB obviously cut Gans short, but he amassed an amazing amount of bouts and some long periods of dominance. Both great lightweights, I feel Duran beating serious fighters right up to middleweight isn't enough to put him above Gans, but fighting in five decades is an achievement in itself, and Gans loses marks either way you look at the McGovern fight.

Duran and Gans both had rivals that pushed them to the limit, but Gans doesn't have that squiffy looking win-lose record Duran has after 'No Mas'. Still, there is a wealth of footage showing Duran looking like one of the very, very greatest of all time. Gans to his credit looks very good in what we have (bar McGovern of course) with flashes of genius.

It's a hard pick, I have Gans 11-15 and Duran top ten.

I'm going to be replied to in a very condescending manner now, just you watch.
