I'm not offended or trying to be argumentative at all, just stating my opinion. I still don't agree with Luf's perspective about two weightclasses automatically qualifying them as greater but i appreciate your post here and find myself agreeing with you about IV being too high.

I just noticed Mike is listed in VI and VII, which one is it? VI is fair, if i was going to make a case for V i would compare to Hagler. The value i place on certain factors when looking at these things tends to differ from alot of others and im aware of that. Mike vs Marvin for example the disparity in quantity of elite wins weighs much higher for me than number of title defenses considering the level of opposition.

Mike's consistancy in beating greater opponents is a more valuable consistancy than guys like Hagler and Hopkins are credited for in beating lesser fighters when fighting 2 or 3 times a year. Holman or Mike having the odd loss against another great fighter and one or two head scratchers in their career doesn't diminish the significance of how many elite opponents they defeated and the consistancy with which they did it. I value that more.

Mike's in the higher one, I just forgot to remove him frmo the lower when I bumped him. Fixed.

    Tier VII
Ted Kid Lewis, Carlos Zarate, Jack Dempsey (np), Luis Manuel Rodriguez, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Salvador Sanchez.

    Tier VIII
Oscar De La Hoya, Sammy Angott, Miguel Canto, Jimmy Driscoll, Harold Johnson, Kid Norfolk, Manuel Ortiz, Dick Tiger.

So we're ok with these as they stand at the moment? Or not? Related specifically to those above them rather than what might come after...so dont' worry about names you haven't seen - do you feel strongly any of these guys should be higher?

    Noted.

I want to leave Oscar where he is and label him as one of the guys to be discussed at the end.

He has a point. Lloyd Marshall beat better men than Oscar, i feel pretty sure of that. But there's a superb post, as you'll remember outlining Oscar's case. Some quibles aside, I think it's the best post in this thread, perhaps. But I want to wait on Oscar now. He's a dividing presence, as I knew he would be and I want to wait on him.
