Manny pacquiaos legacy is greatly helped by being able to fight at 8 divisions, that totalkly voosts his p4p rankings

Pep would make Louis look silly if we could somehow match them in a virtual P4P H2H bout.

I think it's safe to say that the road for Pernell to rise in weight was a bit less bumpy than it would have been for Pep and Saddler had they chosen to move up. Especially for Pep. For Pernell to move up and claim a mere portion of the title he has to beat Buddy McGirt (an excellent fighter, but like Whitaker, not a natural welter) and rebuff the advances of Santos Cardona, Jake Rodriguez, Gary Jacobs, Wilfredo Rivera and fighters of that calibre for the most part (yes, I do give PW credit for beating Chavez, btw).

For Pep to move up and claim THE title he would have to look at the whole picture: First I gotta beat Ike Williams- no easy feat- then face the likes of Beau Jack, Bob Montgomery, Sammy Angott, Willie Joyce, Johnny Bratton, Freddie Dawson, Jimmy Carter, Maxie Docusen, etc.

Here's something to consider. Would Whitaker have been so hot to move from LW to WW if it were the 1940s and what was waiting for him up there wasn't Hurtado, Rivera, Jacobs, Rodriguez and McGirt, but Sugar Ray Robinson, Kid Gavilan, Charley Burley, Holman Williams, Cocoa Kid, Henry Armstrong, Fritzie Zivic, Tommy Bell, Izzy Jannazzo, Bernard Docusen and Jimmy Leto?

I think he might have been content remaining LW champ for a few more years. At least until the inferno died down up there :smoke

Point is two fold... Would you consider Pep or Sandy greater p4p than Whitaker? Second, if so, how could you justify such a position? They never moved up the way Pea.. they never tested themselves to prove they were p4p one of the best. That alone should make Pea higher on this list than either no? You can claim the road was easier, and let's say it was for sake of argument, Pea still did it.. they didn't.

Who knows, but what we do know, is that Pea had no issue fighting the best and testing himself against the best. Whether that be at his weight or above.. certainly more than some names above whitaker on this list.. No?

I hear you. But consider this argument- what if the guys you are facing at your own weight class are more formidable (and thus a BETTER test of your worth) than the guys someone else is jumping up in weight to fight? I'm not comparing Pernell to Saddler or Pep here, just in general.

I've said Saldivar already. He died and then came back. The Laguna he faced was better than the Nelson that Sal' faced. Also future champ' and already ranked no.1 contender and bantam (and right up there at feather when Saldivar beat him, robbery calls are of no consequence IMO, one of those 'what do you like' fights from the footage and most reports) and was Lopez better than Sugar Ramos? Castillo, Ford, Cowdell better than Winstone x3? Gomez was better than Seki, admittedly. But Fammo and Legra combined must not make Saldivar far behind in terms of scalps, if at all.
