Best win aside from Chocolate (and a controversial, wafer thin decision loss on at least another occasion) is probably Frankie Genero (who goes Top 10-15 in a lot of all time Flyweight lists and who has two wins over Pancho Villa). Then again, those victories over Bud Taylor are pretty damned impressive too.

Basically, LaBarba holds victories over three guys that aren't far removed from the lower reaches of a Top 100, in their respective divisions where they were considered to belong among the top ten or fifteen in divisional rankings. What separates him from Herman, and puts him in similar company than Basilio is that LaBarba scored his best wins while fighting over his best weight against guys who were naturally bigger.

I wouldn't necessarily rate LaBarba over Basilio, but they're in the same range, imo..within the top 100, for sure.

Any one of four guys...SRR, Langford, Greb, and Armstrong, have damned good cases for being rated over one another.

I thought I was an Ez proponent claiming he was a lock at #5.

    Chocolate.

Well conveyed & argued. He should stay.

How many fighters have we got so far (Too lazy to count Lawl)? So many great fighters are going to just nick out of the top 100. It sucks to be on that cut off. Some fans will be undoubtedly pissed.

I'm tempted to say when it comes to ranking Basilio should be above Herman but below Mendell (An argument can go either way). Mendell just has the quality and quantity. Basilio's quality is superior to Herman I think, and I feel Basilio should probably be ahead of LaMotta because of his championship at two main divisions.

I'll go back in the Cobra Vaults and dig out those extensive 'Charles is greater than Armstrong' posts. All of them. I know you guys love that ****.

When the bell rang at the end of berg's win over canzoneri , canzoneri's cornermen jumped into the ring to carry him back to his stool and this was reported as the worst beating canzoneri had taken in his career

OK, some good reads here guys thanks.

First: Basilio has to go in. It's weird, he was under discussion at some point I probably just ****ed up editing a tier or something. So it's either Lynch, Lewis or Barrera that is making way from Basilio who we have to tier.

    Thoughts?

    Changes:

Angott down, Herman down, Ambers up and i've switched Leonard and Ali in the top tier, which is the first move for me in that area for like two years.

Ok then if I had to take one of those three it would be lynch although it really is a tough decision . When watching lynch he looks amazing but Lewis and Barrera were fighting top fighters over a longer period of time . Not sure at all but that's my gut feeling

Let me first say, I very much like the list so far, but I have a few issues.

I can't agree with Marciano over Frazier

Allow me to quote myself from another forum.

May I ask what criteria separates them?

Also, for what it's worth, I don't think Calzaghe earned his place on this list. He certainly didn't take the risks the rest of them did. At least not regularly enough.

If I recall correctly, he only fought 3 fighters who were ranked the in the top 5 of his division when he fought them.

I think even the lower tier heavyweights (example, Wlad) belong to be in over him. He may have had the potential, but I cannot think of another fighter considered an ATG with a record even similar to that.

Whatever reasons he and Frank may have had, I do not see how he is top 100 material

Trying to put the 100 or so listed in some order is a challenge at best. also there are some that should be there but are not. Right away I have disagreement to the first tier as
I would have Willie Pep in the top ten or first tier. Also, Ali was the showman and in his own words the greatest, but there is no way he should be in the top ten. Ali and Maxie "Slapsy" Rosenbloom should be in a special tier of their own with Gypsy Joe Harris, with some of the other all flash and dance, There are likely a few titles that could be used but not top tier. Many will disagree with putting Ali in a "clown" type category, but it could be the top Slappers in boxing or some other different rating system.
