I mis-wrote completely there - he's 18 fight undisputed champion and the others are disputed. The confusion springs from the Tommy Sullivan loss where Attell claimed a foul and happily continued defending the title as if he had won that fight.

It's down as a knockout loss on Boxrec and that's the way it should be treated but things were a little ****ed up for a while to say the least.

...then the bar is quite clearly too high for Barrera?

Nah, he makes it, but I have him bringing up the rear as far as the three amigos are concerned.

Fair enough, but he beats both of them H2H.

I'm watching Qawi-Foreman. Weird fight. Foreman lands a left uppercut, Qawi looks hurt and as if he's going to go down, Foreman turns around and then Qawi carries on fighting. Then at the end of the round I clearly see Foreman talk in Qawi's ear. I wonder what he said to him? :think

Were there just no title defenses in 1905?

I can imagine how nasty stuff got. Sullivan did absolutely nothing after 'winning' the title. Then him and Attell draw in '07. Attell finishing Sullivan in '08 must've cleared things up a little bit. (Maybe in hindsight; it's good he stayed recognized as champion?) Then Driscoll beats Attell in a non-title fight in '09. Yuck.

Am I grasping what was going on back then?

    Everyone is, a bit.

The length of time for which he was defending the title was insane though.

I agree. The Driscoll loss just looked fishy. But Attell's longevity was already set by then.

He was a fishy **** full stop. But yeah, no denying what he did or where he belongs.

MAB would have beaten 147lbs Chuck Davey as a 19 year old Super Flyweight. Just sayin', M.
