hmm says... we had this thread before and I remember that this was one of the topics I started off with in ESB. Pretty much everyone nailed my top picks and I focused mainly on the HW's for clear discern. Ali - fast jab for HW Liston - strong jab Holmes - strong and fast Louis - solid (either two) Lewis - solid Hearns - flickers.. angles/speed
A power punch is the last thing a jab should be though. Which is why I don't rate Liston's jab particularly highly. All he had to go with it was the power and the reach. Little speed or variation. I suppose it was okay as a measuring stick to set up other punches, but not great.
If Kevin Johnson keeps winning at the elite level, he might make the top 5 list someday. His jab is the best at hw right now, but I don't know if it is bec of the guys he had been fighting.
I don't why guys put Louis' jab in that list. He's got power but he definitely didn't have a good jab.
Mosley's jab is rarely powerful, he mostly flicks it. When he commits to it, it can be powerful, but he spends most of the time flicking it.
Holmes Hearns Ali Holmes and Hearns used to put lots of feints behind the jab and they threw it from the hip with tremendous speed.
