    1-Holmes
    2-Ali
    3-Whitaker
    4-Hearns
5-W Klitchko...(He wins a whole fight with 40 to 50 jabs a round with 2 or 3 right hands between them...)

I think Wlad's jab has snap and speed to it and a little more variation and works to set-up punches better, whenever he throws the right hand, it comes behind the jab. Watch the Ray Austin fight aswell where he knocks him out only with left hooks, he hurts him first by hooking off the jab. But even as good as Wlad's jab is, it probably wouldn't make my top 5 of all-time.

Probably not top 5 of all-time material, but Joe Louis had a good jab.

Going by the thread, it looks like I'm in the minority with how high I rate Wlad's jab, but for my money- it's the best combination of all the attributes I look for in that punch. Extremely powerful - he snaps back guys' heads who are legitimate heavyweight fighters, he has a hell of a reach, doesn't throw it off balance, and he throws it with the quickness of a lower weight fighter. He also doesn't neglect using it- in fact, if Wlad's jab weren't so good, other people probably wouldn't ***** about boring fights involving him because he wouldn't rely on it so much- but in measuring a jab, it makes more sense to reward those who are good enough and committed enough to keep using it. Holmes is the only other guy I think fits every criteria of what I look for in the ideal jab, which is why I list them 1a and 1b. :thumbsup

Great assessment of Wlad's jab (that sounds funny in my head). I have nothing bad to say about it either, just not quite top 5 material.

John Conteh had one of the most versatile jabs, and left hands in general, of any fighter I've ever seen. Fighting basically one-handed with it against Yaqui Lopez, he pretty much took him to school utilizing all manner of left hand punches from lead left hooks to hookercuts and back to that slick, smooth jab.

Golota deserves at least a mention. In his heyday, he had quite a snappy jab.

Wlad? Seriously. Technically Quarteys and Wrights are superb. In fact asidefrom their beautiful jabs they had very little else. For that reason alone they deserve to be right up there. Holmes, Ali and Louis all had great jabs too.

Emmanuel Stewart once said that Jermaine Taylor's jab is the best since Larry Holmes and might end up as the best ever. What happened to his jab?
