what actually makes a jab good?? for me its accuracy, damage potential and how often you use it. how about you guys??
He also said that Dariusz Michalczewski's jab was the best he's ever seen, I agree it was fantastic, but not the best probably. Altho I see him in top5.
1 - Ken Buchanan 2 - Carlos Monzon 3 - Sonny Liston 4 - Ricardo Lopez 5 - Sugar Ray Robinson For everyone who is picking Wlad, what the ****? Talk about a lack of variety... Lopez, Robinson and Buchanan are grossly underated in this thread. Whitaker, Harold Johnson, Quartey, Holmes and Ali would be there or thereabouts if I was doing ten
Don't forget a jab is not supposed to be a power punch, while Listons was dynamite (still one of my all time favourite fighters) Wright used his perfectly in terms of what its actually for, and that is annoying your opponent, disrupting his rythm, setting up combinations and scoring easy points. His technique and speed with the jab was flawless too.
Virgil Hill just missed the cut on my list. Sweetpea Whitaker, Ike Quartey and many others had great jabs who missed the cut.
No order...best jabs ever top 10 1. Ali 2. Holmes 3. Liston 4. Foster 5. Lewis 6. Hearns 7. Sweetpea 8. Ike Quartey 9. Hill 10. Robinson/Pep I know this isn't my list, but this is who came to mind lol...
Good call on Arguello; that **** was lazer guided. His jab is under rated. Probably because he often used it for a range finder, and so people forget how good he was with it when he wanted to pop somebody!
I'd add versatility to your list. I like seeing a guy tap-tap with a jab, hammer with it to set up power shots, use it as a range finder, and jab to body, chest, and head.
