Ike Quartey...for a guy to be as good as he was without anything else is amazing.

Canto and Leonard are incredible and i'm glad you brought them up. Two completely different eras but both remembered for their fantastic jabs. Leonard especially controlled the pace, rhythm and distance like no one else.

I think Canto was known more for his slick defensive skills and ring generalship than his jab. His left hook was his best weapon.

Well he had pretty good hand speed and power to go along with the jab.

I cannot believe you guys do not mention Hearns. I think Hearns jab was just as good as Holmes and maybe better. Hearns had much more snap. If Hearns did not stop guys he would go to his jab and left hand and pick guys apart from the outside.

    agreed

That jab was perfect, it had enough speed and pop to wear out or knock out a guy. What was also great about it is that it had the same consistent snap through out an entire fight.

Willy Pep is probably number 1. Joe Louis had hard jab, probably hardest jab of any heavyweight champ. Tunney had great one, Holmes too.

exactly Hearns had probably the best jab but I guess when you have that great a right hand people forget about a great jab. Hearns jab is much better than Quartey or Liston and his quality of opposition was great.

Someone mentioned that Hearns used his jab for "angles and control" or something similar. That's called the Flicker Jab. He's #1 for sure for flicker jabs. Overall, I'll take Wvlad, much to the consternation of McGrain and other sentimentalists that won't allow it on principle that he's Wvlad.
