In no particular order: Jones vs Ruiz Barrera vs Hamed Lewis vs Klitschko Hopkins vs Taylor Calzaghe vs Kessler Honorable mention: Kostya vs Hatton Hopkins vs Tito Hopkins vs Tarver Taylor vs Pavlik
Lewis v Klitschko was stopped on cuts when Lewis was behind on points! Despite the quality of the opponent, that cannot be considered to be a decisive victory. How can that be better than Hatton beating the fight out of p4p#3 Tszyu, Hopkins stopping p4p#2 Tito, or Hopkins jumping 2 weight divisions at 40+ and dominating the linear lhw champion? I don't see how Taylor-Pavlik merits a mention here either. It was a sensational fight, but watch Taylor's last 3 fights before that one - he was just waiting to be deposed.
Because Lewis and Vitaly without a doubt are the two best HWs of the last ... many ... years. Kostya-Hatton? Well, Hatton is a rather limited guy with great stamina and Kostya was over the hill. Hopkins-Tito? Well, that was a physical mismatch righ from the word go. Taylor-Pavlik is an evenly matched fight between two of the three best MWs. Good, but they may not be the two best fighters to fight at HW for several years - like Lewis-Vitaly were. Hopkins-Tarver. Old vs Old actor. It was a nice win for Hopkins, but considerign the circumstances we should not overestimate it.
All good choices - I might squeez Morales victory (even tho its close & debatable) over Barrera when you consider that both are 2 of the best ever & both were at their peak + it was 1 of the best ever fights in ANY century. The closeness of the fight might keep it out as the thread is more about the winners performance I suppose but the way both men performed would have earned them a KO victory vs any other fighter in the world at that weight at that time so I dont think the performance of the loser should take anything away from that of the winner - if anything it should add points. :thumbsup
wtf? Lewis for sure but Vitali never every beat anybody of significance. Wlad, Ruiz, Byrd, Tua all beat more and better opponents, not to mention Holyfield. Bunch of **** what you wrote there. Nobody thought Hatton would win, Tszyu was the p4p number 3. That´s a huge win. Hindsight is a *****. Yeah, that´s why Tito was heavier for the fight than Hopkins, that´s why Tito was the heavy favourite. Tito totally ****ed up the second best mw shortly before that fight. Mismatch, right. The Vitali argument is nonsense. Pavlik´s win in the first fight also was much more decisive and beeing a top mw counts for more than beeing a top hw due to the hw division beeing traditionally not as deep as the mw division. wtf? The former mw champion coming of two losses moves up 2 weightclasses destroying a top10 p4p fighter and number 1 lhw in the werld at age 42 is a huge achievement. Boy, you really should shut up. You make a big fool out of yourself.
Nice. :thumbsup I can only add a few: Barrera UD12 Hamed (I'd put that above PacMan's victory since Naseem was unbeaten and looked unbeatable - just like Tito in the Hopkins fight) Forrest UD12 (almost KO2) Mosley (what a performance, P4P#1 was badly beaten) Campbell UD12 Diaz (what a truly stunning performance from the old fox, although Diaz wasn't a P4P-er or a superstar) Calzaghe UD12 Lacy (it was a huge fight at the time and Lacy was very heavily favored. Not P4P-ers before the fight, but this one gets a spot because of the unreal domination, something I've never seen before) Tarver KO2 Jones (what a great way to get revenge - of course Roy wasn't the best Roy, but still, something that changed the way a lot of people was looking at boxing - that includes me) OR Toney TKO12 Jirov (what a great comeback from a fighter of the 90s)
1. PBF/Corrales 2. Marco Antonio Barrera/Naseem Hamed 3. Manny Pacquiao/Marco Antonio Barrera 4. Hopkins/Trinidad 5. Jones/RUiz
Loewe I read that non-sensical piece of **** post from that dude and felt downcast at having to spend a couple of minutes of my time educating him, only to scroll down and get the pleasant surprise that you had written PRECISELY what needed to be. Superb post :good
