Very good effort. It doesn't seem quite as consistent as the two other lists but very good none the less. Some inclusions I think should be there: Lewis - vitali Wlad - byrd I think mosley - hoya is a great shout for number 1. But I think hoya should have been unbeaten at that point and didn't lose again until sturm. On your 90's thread hoya doesn't get as much credit so maybe your opinion changed? I dunno. Either way great shout. Props for pac-cotto. Unless pac beats the winner of floyd/ortiz this will be his defining victory imo. A former flyweight brutalising a man who would go onto to become the best lightmiddleweight in the world is awesome. Overall a good list, my only nitpick is it isn't as good as your two other threads. Regarding the order, i'd swap pac-cotto with em-pac. I'd also put floyd-hoya at number 10. Just wanna emphasise tho, my nitpicks are just that, nit picking. This is great work and I hope you keep it up. Unfortunately I read these in chronologic order but the opposite order you wrote them, so each one is a bit worse than the last which in reality means you've made good improvements each time you've done them. Awesome stuff man.
Thanks man, much appreciated. This was the first one I did, and I have gradually extended them as I've done them, so you're right to say they've got better. Re Lewis-Vitali : I don't really rate a win on cuts as a great win. Just a personal preference. To me that's not a definitive/conclusive method of victory. Re Wlad-Byrd : It's just not a win I rate highly enough to have it in the top 50. Good win, but just not a great one as I see it. Anyway, cheers again :good PS: I have posted my reasoning for ODLH's lack of entries on the 90s thread, done so about 20mins ago I think. Check it out. I think Oscar was a tremendous boxer, really rate him and like him as a fighter, if it was up to me Oscar-Tito would have been scored 116-112 to Oscar and it'd be right up in the top 3/top 5 region of the 90s list.
With the two fights I posted it was more the intangibles that I like. The two heavyweights of the decade and their two best victories of the decade. By your criteria I agree they don't really crack the top 50. Yeah that's what I was saying they've each got better as you did them. I just read them in the wrong order. Yeah either way he's still considered the best welterweight in the world when shane beats him. So it's still an awesome victory. Great choice for number 1 imo. Going to have to watch them two fights again!
yes but you could argue at that time that corrales was an unstoppable beast at 130. it's not really too far off to consider it as one of the best wins in that decade.
Except that Corrales wasn't an unstoppable anything. He'd beaten two good fighters, Gainer and Manfredy, but not much else. He was a good fighter with a good punch, nothing more, despite any hype which may have occurred. He was never, ever on the same level as MAB at any point.
