Surely Greb should be in. From 1910-19 he beat:

    Mike Gibbons
    Battling Levinsky (x6)
    Jeff Smith (x3)
    Billy Miske (x2)
    George Chip (x2)
    Soldier Bartfield (x3)
    Bill Brennan (x4)
    Mike McTigue (x2)
    Chuck Wiggins (x2)
    Eddie McGoorty
    Jack Dillon (x2)

I just looked at this, Greb has wins over
    Mantell
    McGoorty
    Dillon x2
    Brennanx4
    Bartfield x3
    Miske x2
    Houckx2
    Mike Gibbons
    Chip
    McCoy
    McTiguex2
    Smithx3
It's an insane resume! Yet he isn't in the original list!:huh
Joe Jeannette ,who is in, has a win over Langford , a disputed win over a young Carpentier, and a win over Kid Norfolk. :-(

If you want me to have Greb in then I have to dump Mike Gibbons, of those names above McGoorty was top notch yet Darcy knocked him out twice, Chip was top notch, Darcy knocked him out, Jeff Smith also top notch Darcy beat him once too, Miske is top notch. Levinsky may be his best wins... The others are not as good in my opinion, Bartfield and Brennan and Wiggins are not top rankers and Dillon is between the top notch and the Bartfields. I think up until 1919 Mike Gibbons had been more impressive... also I don't like have the same guy in two different decades and clearly Greb's biggest scalps are in the 20's... oh McTigue, he is not as good as Chip or McGoorty and is about as good as Dillon I think.

Jeanette was a great fighter and Greb I put in my 20's list and yet you want me to recognise No Decision bouts ?
Unlike in Griffo's era they had newspaper decisions in Greb's day, in Griffo's newspapers just told the facts with no kickbacks as a result.... sorry but I discount all the 6 rounders and 10 rounders... you need to do more than glance at boxrec which is run by some low people. Joe jeanette deserves to be remembered.

The fights I listed were wins.

Which are Jeannette's best wins during this decade?
Which are Griffo's best wins period?

Griffo was long retired and living as an alcoholic on the streets of New York.

Well it really is a matter of how you rate Dempsey .. there is little doubt he was in his prime in 1919 .. better than any 1920's version .. if you rate him as real do you rate him better than a 32 year old Johnson or ahead of Jeannette as a heavyweight ? Just questions ..

My actual thoughts when tossing up greb and Jeanette was in a head to head fight and I went for the bigger man but I can include Greb at the expense of Mike Gibbons.

You could include Greb at the expense of "someone else," but that isn't happening, because it would negate the whole purpose of the thread.:yep

Yep legitimate questions but i cannot ignore the lower weight classes either, it can be argued that the best fighters were welterweights and below... we have Herman and Wilde and Welsh and McFarland.. all fantastic fighters and Kid Lewis and Britton are pure certainties. I think Jeanette was in his prime for half the decade. and Dempsey is in my 20's list as his big fights were there.

Do you want the same names in this decade and the 20's ??? here's an idea McVey, make your list and show it... I will respect whatever you have as your opinion.

So some of Greb's wins don't count because Darcy beat them too? In that case why does Darcy make the list for beating the same guys as Greb? Greb went 3-0 against Smith, Darcy was 1-1. Greb beat Gibbons, who was probably the best middle in the world at the time. Dillon was an excellent light-heavy (and HOFer). Bartfield was a very capable fighter who beat the likes of Gibbons, Kid Lewis, Jack Britton plus Greb himself. Wiggins and Brennan were heavyweight contenders. Greb's resume for 1910-19 is a match for anyone else's in that timeframe IMO.

Personally I'd take off Johnson and Jeannette, as their resumes for this period are nowhere near as impressive as some of the smaller guys around.

Herman should be in. Jeannette doesn't have enough wins over top men to warrant his inclusion imo.

Jeanette seems actually more impressive than Johnson at the time,
