I'm pretty sure that if Beterbiev isn't a big name he has only himself to blame. He was beating the likes of Tavoris Cloud in his sixth fight, so he obviously was motivated and asking for big fights back when he started. He's just been dragging his heels though since he signed with Haymon two years ago. He wanted money and Haymon promised him money. He could have fought Kovalev a year ago instead of us getting Pascal 2, but Haymon put the kabosh on it.
Beterbiev was getting cheated, his career wasted.................hope he wins in court, but he needs to fight as much as possible or quit.................
Ward will wait until Berbiev's gonads gradually drop for a few more years before his attack. The lower they ride the better for sledge-hammering.
The problem is that when you are young you have the idea that you are never going to get old so you throw away years as if they were worthless. The ironic thing is that older people whom you consider your friends or maybe family, who know better might not warn you of the urgency because of envy. Then when they see that you screwed up these are the same MFs who say that "Well, you had your chance!'"
This. Its shortened their pro career. Way to many amateur fights too have a long pro career. Their eating into their pro career as an amateur if u get me !
Poor management can be due to lack of skill or envy. In both cases the result is identical-a screwed-up career. The problem is lack of suspicion due to blind trust.
I don't think Ward will avoid him, but there are more lucrative fights I feel he'll realistically go for first - I think Stevenson, Joe Smith Jr. and Badou Jack are just fights he'd prefer, whilst waiting to see if Beterbiev is actually legit by having him fight Kovalev.
Is he being cheated, or is he trying to cheat? This feels a lot like when Andre Ward was beefing with Goosen or Mikey Garcia was messing with Arum. You're the promoter, are you going to be doing everything possible for a fighter who's being as difficult as possible?
How is he being difficult? He's desperate for big fights. He suffers from two major drawbacks 1. He's not a draw 2. He's a complete brute
KRUSHER Fought unpaid for a few fights, he worked himself up, hes taking purses far less than hes worth. Beterbiev needs to keep active or die a death in boxing.
Beterbiev had a serious shoulder injury that required surgery a few years ago. Unfortunately, that layoff & whole recovery process set his momentum back significantly... and that's not even counting his recent managerial issues (on one hand with Michel and the other w/Reva). Observing Ramadan also makes his training and boxing schedule a little less flexible. I don't think Artur's career is totally derailed yet though. He's like the 'dark horse' of the LHW division and is definitely still a factor -- he's closing in on a mandatory challenger spot now. It's great to see his social media awareness and to find out that he realizes there are fans in the West who have interest in seeing him fight. For such an exciting fighter, his recognition can only grow, provided that he can stay totally motivated (and get beyond the legal roadblocks he is currently facing). In other words, the sooner he gets back in the ring and grabs some wins, the better. Let's hope for the best.
