Yup. I can't defend this. Wilder made a horrible move here imo and all credit to Hearn and AJ for making Wilder such a good offer.... Not sure how Wilder gets out from under this shadow now (to me). I kinda see this as a shameless duck.
Wilder, Finkel, Haymon are all betting on the Breazeale fight to strengthen their position for the AJ fight, they want a 50% split and they awill hold the WBC belt hostage until AJ pays 50%. It's that simple. I personally don't think Wilder's worth 50% against AJ at all, but business wise and with the fight to be held in the US, I can understand why they want to keep the belt as far from AJ for as long as possible. Wilder is the only man in his team who thinks he can beat AJ (maybe?), otherwise they would of taken 40%, took the other belts and been the division king(s) earning all the future money!! But come on, Wilder hasn't beaten anybody of note EVER!..... After old man Luis Ortiz(n't) showed his true skills hammering Hammer (pmsl) this Breazeale fight could arguably be Wilder's best win (AJ's leftovers ffs) I'll accept the Breazeale fight despite the ridiculous amounts of money being offered because it's his mando and there's not much better fights out there But after May 18th, If Wilder wins and doesn't start screaming for AJ, or starts refusing to meet or refusing to send contracts again, then it will be official that he is a duck plain and simple. TO THIS DAY having meetings IS NOT counter productive, I hope the recent DAZN meeting has taught Finkel that. Let's see how things pan out after May/June. - I actually think if both fighters win their respective fights then AJ will overpay DW the 50% he want's, will that be enough though?? Don't duck Deontay. If you really do believe in yourself, man up and get your team chasing the fight the fans really want.
It wouldn't surprise me if Breaz wins their fight.... to be honest. In which case Wilder will be looking even dumber for turning this deal down.
Finkel saying they are in talks with a three fight deal with Showtime that just as lucrative deal if not more than DAZN even if he doesn't fight AJ. I can't see anyway that could be true unless Showtime are prepared to lose a hell of a lot of money. I just don't know another potential HW fight other than AJ that he could earn $40m in or that Showtime would be willing to pay Wilder $20m for the Breazeale fight. I really do hope one of these lower level opponents that wilder is going to line up in the likes of Breazeale, Kownkacki etc can pull off an upset so we get the unification fight.
All the talk of being a free agent and now he's looking to sign a deal with Showtime. It leaves AJ as the only fighter who isn't contractually tied to a network in the US if this happens. The hypocrisy of Wilder to basically try and do what Fury did to him is mind blowing.
Donkey never really wanted that work with King AJ and his claims to the contrary were all This content is protected And This content is protected Donkey Army said that turning down $50 million = an irrefutable duck and an admission that AJ categorically did not want that work even though King AJ was earning an absolute king's ransom everytime he stepped foot into a ring regardless of who was standing in the opposite corner and was regularly shifting 80,000 tickets and is a superstar in the UK, the unified three-belt unified champ, an Olympic gold medalist, performed better than Donkey vs all their common opponents amateur and pro, and has fought the far better competition both in the amateurs and pros despite him having only had almost half the amount of fights in the later than Donkey did. So therefore by their own logic a one-belt far less accomplished and proven shoeless peasant turning down $100 million has to be infinitely more of a duck and an admission that Donkey never wanted that work with King AJ.
I still respect the champ Wilder and will continue to watch his fights but turning down a two fight deal to fight Joshua is very disappointing. I use to think Joshua and Wilder were both in on this stalling of them two fighting but now I can only see one and to be honest, I did suspect it was Wilder holding up the fight but now it's clear. The fight still can happen and just because Wilders ducking Joshua it doesnt mean Wilder would lose should they meet. In saying that, I would bet on Joshua to beat Wilder simply because AJS a better boxer. Wilders got that power though...
Wilder is so funny: First he was blaming Hearn about the money offer. Then Hearn finally offers him a huge mega deal and he turns it down because of "loyalty". I can easily predict what will happen in the future: Once Wilder finally steps up against Joshua, there will be an "injury" and the fight won't happen again.
I've lost count of the number excuses he's made to duck Joshua over the last 12 months and they have been coming thick and fast with this latest duck, lol. Loyalty I guess is the latest one, how about loyalty to his family to make the most money he can, how about loyalty to the fans who keep paying to watch his fights to make the fights that matter. Strange how his loyalty always sides with the choice where he doesn't have to fight Joshua.
You may have noticed most of the wilder fanboys are silent about this. Trying to find an excuse for not taking the deal is very difficult.
