I saw Joey Gamache get cold cocked in front of his home crowd by Tony Lopez, and I could name 1000 more backyard fights where the hometown guy got knocked unconscious lol...

Perfectly possible. He's had a lot of injury trouble, he's probably got some good scar tissue around his eyes now, there are many miles on him. But one fight is just one fight, man. He's fighting a caveman next, he could look like a slickster in there by comparison. He's a fundamentals fighter, it's true. He doesn't have the dimensions that a Ward has but not many do. I wouldn't use Ward's schooling him as the call for retirement. I think Ward schools most fighters in there right now. The thing about a Kessler is he's always sound enough to whoop the ass of most guys in the division, even if he can't be the best. I wouldn't base too much off of one fight. But if Froch beats him, and it's not the competitive fight I think it should be, okay, I'll get a fork to stick in him and call him done.

    Yes ;)

Just now came up with it and I plan to use it until it's sickeningly repetitive.

Its quite funny listening to these dudes ***** and moan about how Ward did those headbutts on purpose...For those who fight should know what I'm talking about...If a orthodox fighter and a southpaw fight...A clash of heads tends to happen...With Ward being a switch hitter (swithing from southpaw to orthodox) then a clash of heads is bound to happen...IMO I dont think Ward purposely butted Kessler...Kessler has a history of being upright fighter and thats going to happen when Ward switches southpaw.

Something else...Kessler is not good at thinking on his feet...When his game plan isnt working...he tends to look lost...This exactly what happened to him in the Calzghe fight and Ward fight! Kessler needs to correct that problem before he reaches that ELITE level....A good fighter is going to make you omit you initial game plan and if Kessler cant negate the others fighters game plan and imply his...I dont think he will ever reach that level again!

Watch this video at 8:30 and tell me Ward didn't mean that headbutt. He knew exactly what he was doing. He charged in like as Al Bernstein said "a billy goat".

He would have outclassed Kessler with his boxing skills alone, but his use of the head was despicable. Him and the bent referee are a disgrace.

Cant watch youtube from my work computer...IMO I didnt think he did those fouls on purpose...but I do see why you say that though...Maybe I'm wrong but it was more of Ward smothering Kessler. When a fighter charges like that...Headbutts are bound to happen! Ward didnt headbutt Kessler like Miranda did Abraham!...Now thats a blatant headbutt IMO!

I find it funny that when ricky hatton, holds, smothers, fights dirty, and fights really boring... hes called a no skilled bum

But when ward does it, does some fancy looking stuff, does the same holding, smothering, holding and hitting, headbutting, hes called a greatly skilled olympian :rofl:rofl:rofl

They use the same game plan against top opposition... Except ward has faster hands and better headmovment(ricky had none)

I find it quite funny how some of hattons biggest detractors, also are fans of wards.....

Both are horrible to watch against top comp, both benefit a bit from home town reffin, and both use that ****ing annoying smothering plan...

    How can anyone deny this??

I have a lot of respect for Ward not only for his skills, but more for his mental strength. He knew he had to go take that title, and he fought hard and did what he needed to do. Props to him.

That said, the headbutts did have an effect on the fight. If you watched the fight, you can tell that, while Kessler did look flat early on, he fell apart once he couldn't see. Eyesight is kind of important in boxing. I think we'll see a competitive, good fight next time with a good ref in there. I'm not saying Kessler would have won on that night, but it would have been a much much more entertaining fight, and Ward would have come off looking much better imo.

Granted, Ward had a great plan, was poised, and executed damn near to perfection. But saying that he outclassed Kessler or whipped his ass is plain idiotic. He never even came close to hurting Kessler with punches. to me, you have to put some hurt on the other guy for it to count as an ass whipping. But a win is a win, and a win doesn't have to be a ruthless beatdown I suppose. I want to see the rematch and see Kessler shut some of his haters up. He's a good fighter and he doesn't need to be super-athletic to be a champion. Man's never been down, and we'll see how good his chin is vs Froch.
