Those championships are as real as tooth fairies and leprechauns and trolls that live under the bridge.
Totally agree. He's left SMW long behind a long time again. When Froch fought Groves in the rematch that was for top spot in the division, since Froch retired it's quite fractured but I'd say DeGale is number 1 atm. DeGale v Jack should crown a new champ.
Finally the SMW title is freed up again, so another champion can be crowned if the #1 an 2 dare to fight eatchother (AA and DeGale atm).
Still can't get the idea of Zlaticanin number 1 LW and Vetyeka number 1 FW. I can't think of anyone I've conversed with who thinks they are the respective best in their division. I sort of get picking Zlaticanin over Linares, and maybe I'm clouded by the title issue but all Dejan has done in a year is beat Redkach. Vetyeka though, I cannot fathom ranking him above Lomachenko and certainly not above Russel Jr.
So, with Pac at #1 and Bradley #2 it was confirmed that this was for the lineal Welterweight title. But immidiately after Pac confirms his retirement. So does that mean the WW championship will be instantly vacated again? :blood
So, indeed Pac is now the WW champion according to the TBRB, but like me they take the option he's actually retiring into account. Fun fact, there's no valid world title belt attached to the TBRB WW lineal at this point.
Curious what happens if Canelo does indeed vacate, and continues fighting at 155-157. Will he still be recognized as the 160 champion? Or will Golovkin and Jacobs have to fight for the vacant 160? Or something different? Very interested in seeing TRBR's official take (along with any dissenting opinions therein).
We know that chickening out of fighting your mandatory and dropping the belt doesn't crown a new champion or even triggers stripping the lineal thing, so that won't even be a discussion. The 155 thing though is point of concern. He's not really in an official different weightclass, but effectively created his own, so real Middleweights can't fight him for his lineal Middleweight crown. Hence people calling it Caneloweight (LMW+1lbs). I think they'll keep him as "lineal" until the cows come home, unless he officially drops the 1lbs and fights for some low hanging LMW strap or loses at 155 (or 156/157). Good chance we get another Spinks/Tyson situation soon where Golovkin is the undisputed champion while Canelo is the purely paper lineal champ.
