I am not proposing it. I agree that a championship 'shouldn't' be contested in the lower division. I should've known that Armstrong didn't defend the WW championship with the LW, but thanks for the clarification. The fact remains that though there is sensibly a minimum weight limit in the amateurs (and all aiba boxing), there is not in pro boxing. And as long as there isn't we can have ridiculous situations like Leonard-Lalonde for a LH title, Mayweather saying he wanted to defend his welter and LMW championships at the same time, and the odd boxing hobbyist historian claiming Ward as LH champ after a SMW fight.
Granted you qualified this statement, but I don't think too many people hold that view. In fact I can honestly say I don't recall ever seeing anyone having said that (although I'm doubting you that there are some).
So Canelo has now officially left the MW division, he said he wouldn't fight at 160, he vacated his titles and challenged Liam Smith at LMW. Surely now the MW throne is open.
Alvarez didn't vacate the LINEAL title, he vacated the WBC title. BIG difference. The MW title is NOT vacant...
Khan @ #3 ahead of Thurman and Garcia? WTF kind of brain dead rankings are these? You guys really should consider laying off the Heroin..
Is it a lie? As far as I'm aware he no longer considers himself MW champion. Has he said anything to the contrary?
