Well, it's nice that you boys and girls have something to do in your spare time. I personally tend to refer to Boxrec when I want to know who ranks where, but it's swell to have an alternate if somewhat unpopular point of view to look at. In most weight classes, after the top three a roll of the dice or coin toss works just as well as what I've seen so far.

The Ring is dead! Long live TBRB!

Takayama should be number 1. He beat the best man out there.

I do feel where possible number 1 spots should be won or lost in the ring and only in extreme examples should a usurpation occur (roy jones unifying 4 of the belts, or juan diaz doing pretty much the same thing)

I disagree with your number 1 policy, but I like having a champion in the division for the same reasons.

For example you wouldn't rate Yagashi number 1 at Flyweight. Wonjongkam was number 1 then got old over night and lost to a journey man, then he lost to the average Igashi who lost to Yageshi in his 1st fight at flyweight.

I feel the same think with Takayama- he was well beaten 12 months ago by Joyi, even though Joyi injured his leg in the 1st round and hobbled around the rest of the fight.

Rodriguez is a journeyman, he beat Joyi in a fight that Joyi was dominating, but the temperature was too much for him and he tired and dehydrated quickly and got stopped.

Just because Takayama beat a fight who beat the number 1 fighter at the time on somewhat of a fluke, doesn't warrant him overtaking a fighter who dominated him 12 months ago.

    My strawweight rankings would be:

    1. Joyi
    2. Fuentes
    3. Takayama
    4. Rodriguez
    5. Garcia

I would rate yaegashi as number 1 though. Viloria came close to usurping the lineage in my opinion but just as he hit form he lost his next fight.

I had the Joyi-Takayama fight 115-112 to Joyi; it was hardly a dominating win (although it was clear). And I've also never heard of - or saw - this leg injury you're going on about.

    :deal

Guys are doing a tremendous job. Excellent idea to keep at least the Monthly's archived, especially for when this becomes the authority it should be and people will want to go back for research purposes.

Stonehands must be ecstatic over being able to wipe out all of the sport's paper champions in one organized, firm and comprehensive swipe. Only FIVE recognized divisional Champions, and that feels pretty damn accurate.

Bermane Stiverne cracks the top ten at heayvweight with a unanimous decision over a vanishing Chris Arreola. Robert Helenius makes way.

Other debutantes include Ryoichi Taguchi at junior-fly as Kompayak Porpramook departs for flyweight and Simpiwe Vetyeka, ranking #10 at featherweight as Eli Rojas is removed for inactivity.

Middleweight is this month's busy division.

    Champion Sergio Martinez
    1. Daniel Geale
    2. Gennady Golovkin
    3. Peter Quillin ↑
    4. Martin Murray ↑
    5. Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr.
    6. Matthew Macklin
    7. Felix Sturm ↑
    8. Sam Soliman ↓
    9. Dmitry Pirog
    10. Marco Antonio Rubio

Soliman's win over Sturm is changed to a No Contest after traces of methylsynephrine were found in his post-fight urine specimen, so the two change places. Sturm would seem to have more lives than a cat. Martin Murray moves up a spot after a spirited effort versus Martinez, and Quillin's to the top of the division continues.

Seven is a distinct possibility since Broner should be facing Burns for the Lightweight throne (forget "unification" --unification of nonsense remains nonsense), and we're about two bouts from filling the Jr. Welterweight throne.

    Indeed.

It was nice to hear Schaefer address the Jr Welterweight situation directly yesterday.

"Danny Garcia will return on September 7th and I would like for him to fight the winner of Lucas Matthysse and Lamont Peterson. This fight will be the lead-in to our big pay-per-view on September 14th. We want to have a big fight the week before the pay-per-view."

Yep, and we the purists know it's a bigger fight than Schaefer is saying. The day may be coming when fights for true thrones will make headlines again. Belts? Please.

Yeah, I don't think Schaefer has any idea how mouthwatering the prospect of this tournament being completed as structured really is to boxing head junkies. Perhaps Floyd decides to take the additional upside from a Canelo fight and we get the #1 vs #2 there at 154 as well. :yep

Not having Wlad as champ is kind of dumb and Hernandez a cruiser too for beating Cunningham
